Introduction: Bleach Stamped Sweatshirt

About: I enjoy making things. My making them is usually based on necessity, the fact that it doesn't exist, and/or buying it pre-done would be way more expensive. I like all kinds of projects and find this site a ver…

This is something I have wanted to try a while. I have seen bleach stamping done on colored cardstock and wanted to see how it would look on fabric. The results were fun and different.

Step 1: Materials

Sweatshirt

Bleach

Paper towel

plastic bowl

Foam and/or rubber stamps

Piece of cardboard the size of your sweatshirt

An old towel

Step 2: Preparing to Stamp

Preparing the stamp pad

Fold the papertowel to fit in the plastic bowl. It should be 6 to 8 layers. Place in bowl and dampen with bleach. Set down the old towel for your workspace and place bowl at corner. Make sure to work in a well ventilated area.

Preparing the sweatshirt

Place the cardboard in the sweatshirt. Place on a flat surface to work.

Step 3: Stamping

Stamp the sweatshirt to your liking. Use stamps with larger details, these will stamp better. Stamps with fine details my lose those details when stamping.

The bleach will not be visible on the stamp or at first on the sweatshirt. The sweatshirt will begin to process the bleach and the design will begin to show. The color that develops will contrast the original color of the sweatshirt. You can do a test dot of bleach on the inside of the sweatshirt, if you wish to see the final color result.

Once you are done stamping, let the garment dry and develop.

Step 4: Finishing Your Garment.

Once bleach has dried, wash the sweatshirt by hand or in a washing machine, to get rid of any excess bleach.

Dry and enjoy!!
