Step 1: Fabric Sizes

1- 5/8 yard in one color, and 5/8 yard in a different color

2- cording- 4 yards

Cut both prices of fabric 16" x 34".
*pocket and casing is cut from the remains of the lining (inside of the bag) for the pocket, cut 8" x 16". And cut the cording in half. Casing should be cut at 6" x 16" (cut 2)

Step 2: Pocket

Fold the pocket in half, right sides together to form a square (more or less). Sew around the three raw edges leaving an opening on one side. Turn right side out. Press being sure that the seam allowance of the opening are turned to the inside of the pocket

Step 3: Put the Pocket On

Center and pin the pocket to the right side of the lining, 4" down from the 16" raw edge. Topstitch around sides and lower edge of the pocket using a 1/4" seam allowance. Backstitch at the upper edge of the each side of the pocket.

Step 4: Now for the Casings!

Fold each casing in half. Sew along the short ends using a 3/4" seam allowance. this seam allowance is important so the casing will not be caught in the outer seams the bag. turn right side out and press. Fold in half again, matching the raw and folded edge. And press.

Step 5: Put the Edges Together

Layer lining and outer fabric, right sides together. Insert the raw/folded edge of the casing between the two pieces, lining up the raw/folded edge with the raw edges of the lining and the bag fabric. Pin in place. Sew using a 1/2" seam allowance. Repeat with the opposite end.

Step 6: Sewing It Closed

Open the lining and the outer fabric so that the end seams match, folded edges are on each end and the long raw edges are on each side. The right sides should still be together. The casing should be on the inside. Stitch along each side of the lining and the outer fabric, leaving an opening about 5" long on one of the lining sides. be sure not to catch the casing in the side seam

Step 7: Cording

Put the bag right side out and press. Sew the opening closed. Insert the lining into the outer fabric.

Now thread one piece of cording through one of the casings then through the other casing. both ends of the cording will be on one side. Place the two raw end of the cording together. Repeat on opposite end.

Step 8: Attaching the Strings

Pin the loose ends up according to the center side seam at the bottom corner. Cording will be on the outside but place the pins on the lining or your pins will be enclosed in the seam turn it wrong side out flat in the bottom of the bag. Be sure you will be sewing through both the lining in the outer fabric. Sew about 2 inches from the point. you will be sewing the cording to into the bottom seam. Turn bag right side out and you're ready to go!
