Introduction: EMIREN™ (The Radio Controlled Crawler Robot)

About: I'm the person who wastes my time just to save your time and secure your hackable stuff!

Extremely addicted to robots? Well, I am here to show and tell my simple and basic crawling robot. I called it EMIREN Robot. Why EMIREN? Simple, it is a combination of two names the Emily and Waren [Emi(ly) + (wa)Ren = EmiRen = EMIREN] In this project, we are going to create our own remote controlled six-legged crawling robot. This project doesn't require any technical skills to build you just need a common sense of success. I will guide you on how to make this simple basic robot.

Note: Please leave a vote if you find this project fun and educational!

The robot consists of six plastic sticks that serve as its legs. The robot has one geared motor to drive the left and right legs at the same speed to move the robot forward. There is two movement of the robot. The first is the forward and the second is the backward. You will control the robot by using a remote control circuit board which consists of transmitter and receiver circuit board. These boards are optional for makers, why? It's up to you if you want to control the robot using a radio signal. You can use small scaled mini microcontroller such as Arduino Nano R3 if you want to use only the chassis only with a geared motor.

This time I'll be using the default setup and build of the robot which is the remote-controlled version. The reason why I made this project is being a robotics enthusiast and having fun building technical geeky stuff. I love building and designing robots, tinkering and inventing new and latest technologies. Hopefully, you'll enjoy making this as I enjoy making it. • 14pcs M3 Self-Lock Nut
  • 4pcs M2x8 Screw
  • 4pcs M2 Nut

Note: Please leave a vote if you find this project fun and educational!

Step 2: Prepare the Parts

Before we proceed to build the robot we must first prepare the parts such as cutting into pieces the plastic strips, removing the cover of the acrylic glass and inserting the 1:143 Shaft 65mm to the 130 Transparent Robot Gearbox Double Axis. Follow the images above on how I cut the plastic strips into pieces and also how I remove the cover of acrylic glass. If you watched the video you can skip this step and better to proceed to the next step. You must watch the video for better understanding.

Step 3: Build the Base Body

We will build the base body of the robot. Get the 6pcs of 1102 Plastic Strips and the 16pcs of M3x12 Screw and follow the image above on how I place the M3x12 Screw in the hole of 1102 Plastic Strip.Put an M3 Nut in there so it will stay in place. Then follow the rest of the images. Please carefully follow each image and for the better understanding and guide, you must watch the video guide I made. Please proceed to the next step.

Note: Please leave a vote if you find this project fun and educational!

Step 4: The Power Source

We finish building the base body of the robot. This time we are going to add the battery pack in the robot's body. This will be the power source for the robot to run. The battery pack is pre-soldered with switch and wire female connector. You simply, put a screw to attach it to the acrylic glass which is the mainframe of the robot. Follow the images above for more guide or watch the video for a more detailed guide. Proceed to the next step.

Note: Please leave a vote if you find this project fun and educational!

Step 5: The Gearbox

In this step, we will add the gearbox to the mainframe of the robot. We will use the M3x35 Screw and M3 Nuts to attach the gearbox permanently to the acrylic glass. Check out the image above for more guide and watch the video for better understanding and guide adding the gearbox in the acrylic glass which is the mainframe of the robot.

Note: Please leave a vote if you find this project fun and educational!

Step 6: Receiver and Antenna

We will attach the receiver circuit board and the antenna to the robot's mainframe. To do that, you'll need a receiver and transmitter circuit board from the DIY Kit. But if you have your own circuit board then that's fine you can customize your controls and the behavior of the robot. Get a 1pc of M3x12 Screw and its nut. Then follow the images above on how I attach the circuit board to the mainframe of the robot. Please watch the video for better guide and understanding. If you have a question, please let me know in the comment section. You may proceed to the next step if you don't have any question. Alright!

Note: Please leave a vote if you find this project fun and educational!

Step 7: Build and Connect the Legs

To be able to build the legs for the robot using plastic strips, screws, and nuts you should check the video and also some pictures above. Please be careful and detail oriented to successful building and assembling the legs of the robot. I am clear show how I build the legs and connects it to the mainframe of the robot. After you build and connect the legs you may now connect the wire connectors of the switch and the motor gearbox. Connect also the receiver circuit board to the motor gearbox of the robot. By connecting these parts you're now able to control the robot by using remote controller. How can I control this project? Well, we will build the remote control using the transmitter circuit board. If you have some questions, please let me know in the comment below and I will try to help you.

Note: Please leave a vote if you find this project fun and educational!

Step 8: Remote Control

We are in the last step of the project! This step we will assemble the radio remote control. Prepare the AA Battery Case, AA Batteries, Receiver Circuit Board, and the Antenna. First, insert the AA batteries to the case and close it with a back cover. Then, get your favorite screwdriver and a piece of a screw as shown in the picture. Screw the antenna together with the circuit board and attach it to the battery pack. Please see the images above to serve as your reference and also you can watch the video in the intro for a full tutorial. If you having trouble with this step please let me know in the comment. If you created the remote control without any other problem then you're good to go. Please check the last step! Alright!

Note: Please leave a vote if you find this project fun and educational!

Step 9: Play and Enjoy!

Did you enjoy playing around with the robot? If yes, please leave a heart for this project! We have the same feeling when I finish building and assembling this robot. I've tried it for its first walk. I feel I'm back to my childhood days when I playing my robot toys, but this one is different because this is my own build of simple robotic crawler creature out of plastic strips, nuts, and screws. If you find my project awesome and fun to build please consider to vote it or support me by following me on Instructables. I am also looking for a sponsor who will sponsor my future projects, please contact me via personal message or by saying hello and send it here.

Any questions, suggestions, opinion or even constructive comment are welcome here! I love any feedback from you guys because this will help me to shape my self to be a better maker and Inventor of the future. If I made any mistake please correct me and I will really appreciate it.
