Introduction: Edible Fairy Garden Hummus Platter

Here's an easy edible diorama and fun food construction project to entertain guests this spring -- a bread fairy house, surrounded by lush veggies and herbs, all laid on delicious spinach artichoke hummus for dipping. In other words, an entirely edible fairy garden!

There's no better way to eat raw veggies.

Supplies

To make this edible fairy garden, I used:

Multi-grain bread loaf

Spinach artichoke hummus

Bell pepper

Mini cucumber

Carrot

Mushrooms

Broccoli

Spinach

Parsley

Scallions

Step 1: Bell Pepper Roof

To make the roof, place a pepper upsidedown on your cutting board. Cut down to the stem, but make sure you do not cut all the way. Slice every 1/2"-3/4" to create about 5-6 petals. Remove seeds.

Step 2: Bread Fairy House Door, Windows, and Toasted Fences

To outfit the bread fairy house, you will need to cut a door and windows. Before cutting, you must press down the bread slice so the door and windows have a thin profile.

For fences, first toast the bread before cutting into fence slices. Toasting will ensure the bread fences will stay upright.

Step 3: Carrot Flowers

Make sure to choose a slimmer carrot for this step. After peeling the carrot, cut vertical grooves around the carrot, then slice into thin slices.

Step 4: Mossy Greens

For moss, very finely chop spinach, parsley, and scallions.

Step 5: Hummus Ground

For the ground, spread about 1/2" deep of hummus on a platter.

Step 6: Assemble

To create the bread fairy house, choose several slices from both ends of the loaf to create a short loaf. I used 8 slices, 4 from each end. Arrange the slices vertically on the hummus ground, with the bread top showing at the front of the house. You may need a couple of toothpicks to hold the slices together.

Assemble two layers of bell pepper for the roof.

Using the hummus as an adhesive, add hummus to the back of the door and windows before securing to the front of the house.

Add details like sliced cucumber pavers, mossy greens, carrot flowers, mushrooms, and broccoli.

Finish it all up with bread fences.

Step 7: Now Eat Your Veggies!
