Introduction: Extra Luxurious Rumkugeln (Austrian Rum Balls)

Traditionally, Austrian Rumkugeln (rum balls) boast the rich flavor of rum, which is delightful. However, to impart an extra layer of luxury, I've opted to swap the rum with Crème de Menthe Green Liqueur. Its minty essence elevates these chocolates to new heights. To enhance the warmth taste, I've introduced a hint of cinnamon.

Supplies

  • 200 gr dark chocolate (preferably with a high cocoa content)
  • 60 gr butter
  • 80 gr cocoa powder
  • 60 ml Crème de Menthe
  • teaspoon cinnamon
  • Chocolate sprinkles, cocoa powder, or shredded coconut for coating

Step 1: Create the Mixture

Melt the chocolate using the au bain-marie method by placing it in a bowl set over a pot of simmering water. Once melted, remove the bowl from the pot and incorporate the butter and Crème de Menthe, stirring until the butter dissolves. Next, add the cocoa powder and cinnamon and continue stirring until achieving a smooth consistency. For added sweetness, consider substituting half of the cocoa powder with icing sugar, if desired.

Step 2: Rolling the Balls

Let it rest for 20 minutes. Then, shape the mixture into small balls and coat them with shredded coconut or chocolate sprinkles.

Step 3: Enjoy

Let them cool down for 2 hours or use a refrigerator to speed up the process, then enjoy your luxurious chocolates, , ideally in the cozy ambiance of a fireplace.


secret tip: If you want even more warmth you could sneak in a table spoon of 80% Stroh rum.
