Introduction: My Favorite Bookmark

About: Thanks for stopping by! I'm Nir, a physics PhD student studying E. coli bacteria. On my free time I enjoy making all kinds of things - from laser cutting & 3D printing to baking, cooking and doing science expe…

Wether it's a book for class or leisure, you always need a bookmark. You can personalize your own bookmark with your favorite person, and carry them with you anywhere you go :) Hope you like this super-simple project!

Step 1: Taking Pictures

The first step will be taking pictures. I recommand you use a blank page the way we did, since the end product looks better (and also, taking these pictures was really fun!).

I used a smartphone and a built-in editor to edit the colors. I like the B&W pictures better, so that's what I used:)

Once the pictures are taken, email them to yourself, so you could use them in the next step.

Step 2: Using PowerPoint to Crop

I like using PowerPoint for these simple things, since almost eveyone has access to some version of it. Basically, all you need to do to add a photo to PowerPoint is drag&drop your images into it. To crop the image, double click it inside PowerPoint, and look for the Crop button.

Once your image is ready, paste it on a bookmark template. I've attached the one I made, but you can decide the size that fits you best. Mark sure to hold the Shift button while you adjust the size of your photo, to keep the proportions of the original image.

Step 3: Print and Cut

Print the bookmarks. I used B&W. Carefully cut the bookmarks.

Step 4: Paste on a Colored Bristol Paper, and Cut Again

Use a small bit of glue to attach the bookmark to a colored Bristol paper. Don't mind how well it sticks, we'll later laminate it anyway.

Once it's glued, cut it again.

Step 5: Decoration, Lamination and You're Done!

You can add decorations to your bookmark before or after lamination. Decorations after the lamination step will be reversable, so I did it that way.

Notice that most of the bookmark was left black? That's where you can add your own dedication if it's a gift, or a nice quoute to keep with you.

Use a pouch laminator to laminate the pages. Make sure you use lamination pouches that fit your machine.

Once it's laminated, all you have to do is cut the bookmark one last time, and enjoy it!

Hope you my idea an take a look at the rest of my instructables!:)

See you soon
