Introduction: .26 Cal Pellet Rifle

This tutorial is not going to be super, but it will be good enough that you can make the project yourself.

If you are like me, you are probably trying to make guns all the time. In this DIY, I will show you how to make a pellet gun that shoots 1/4 inch pellets for a sling shot. I built this gun two weeks ago so please comment ideas because it is not nearly done yet.

Also this is my first instruct able, so please be understanding. That doesn't mean I don't have anything to offer.

This gun is pretty powerful, I am estimating considering other guns and pellet gun I have fired (I don't have a chrono) about 550-650 fps at 250 psi. I know most of us can't get 250 psi but I can from a nitrogen tank. Using a bike pump to 160 is fine, maybe just a bit slower.

This gun can produce about 16 fpe and the pellets are 16.8 grain I believe.

Step 1: Designing the Wood

So to get started, look at the first image I showed. You will need to cut out a stock design from a 1 inch wide piece of wood. About 2.5 feet long. Paint it any color you like as I painted mine brown. Make sure it is kind of like mine so the pipe fits right.

Step 2: Buying the Parts

You will need besides the wood:

A half inch metal ball valve (not plastic) with threaded sides

A 2 inch piece of 1/2 inch PVC pipe

2 half inch slip PVC elbows

Another piece of half inch pipe(about 3 inches but it depends on your wood stock

A 1/2 inch threaded to 3/4 inch slip PVC piece

a tire shrader valve cut from an old bicyle tire and the rubber has been removed with a knife or sand paper

A metal arrow that is hollow

PVC cement

A 1/2 inch threaded to 1/2 inch slip PVC piece

Masking tape

JB Weld or JB Kwik

Creativity. You can't make it just like mine so you must be creative,

Step 3: Drilling the Wood and Assembling the Parts

You can see my design in the picture I showed. Drill a hole in the wood near where it gets fatter so that a 1/2 inch PVC pipe can fit through.

You can assemble the PVC parts the way I did in the image. The ball valve must be loose, it is the trigger. Use Teflon tape on threaded parts so they don't leak. You can glue the parts in place except for the PVC piece at the top of the gun (that is removable to insert ammo). Make sure the ball valve is in place the correct way like a trigger and not backwards.

Don't glue the cap at the end with the valve. That is for the next step.

Step 4: Gluing in the Valve

Drill a hole in the 3/4 inch cap the size of your valve. Make sure it is snug or tight. Push it all the way in. Apply JB weld to the valve on both sides of the cap (inside and out) and make sure not to get glue in the valve hole or on the threads on the valve.

PVC cement the cap onto the rest of the gun when it is finished drying. Let it cure FULLY, do not skimp.

"Well it says 15 to 24 hours, oh maybe 12 is fine, I really want to finish it". DO NOT DO THAT!

Step 5: The Barrel

Now for the barrel.

I assume you are viewing the intro image (please do so)

Cut the 1/2 inch pipe about 2 inches long. Take an arrow and cut the fin part off of it with a hack saw or file. Also cut the end off that the point screws in to. Wrap the arrow in masking tape to make it fit inside the half inch pipe. You can apply hot glue for a better seal. Also apply a bit of orange paint or tape to the end if you want to. Your gun is just about complete.

Step 6: Finishing Touch

I have not done so yet, but you could make a mount for a scope. If you do, tell me how in the comments.

On the gun, add support with either PVC pipe or other parts to parts of pipe that are loose or hanging. Make sure it is all secure.

Step 7: Firing Your New Gun!

Pump up your gun. The pipe should be rated at 480 psi, but that amount of pressure is hard to achieve so just use your bike pump. Take off the barrel. Take a pellet and a tiny little piece of tissue and wrap the pellet with the flake of tissue to make it snug in the barrel.

Replace the barrel back on/to the gun and point it in a safe direction.

Release the pressure to fire the pellet at high speed. (Velocity means speed and direction)

If the valve stick spray it with WD-40 or silicone spray or some other lubricant.

Please be safe with it because it can puncture skin easily and kill bird (if you can hit them).
