Step 2: Step 2: Acquire All the Right Measuring Tools, and Utensils Needed:
a. 1 large mixing bowl
b. “1 cup” measuring cup
c. “1/2 cup” measuring cup
d. 1 stirring spatula
e. 6 paper bags (to shake mix in)
f. 1 large piece of wax paper
b. “1 cup” measuring cup
c. “1/2 cup” measuring cup
d. 1 stirring spatula
e. 6 paper bags (to shake mix in)
f. 1 large piece of wax paper
Step 3: Step 3: Begin Measuring
Begin by measuring out the rice Chex mix cereal and pouring it into your mixing bowel followed by measures of the cake mix, and powdered sugar. Make sure you pay attention to the amounts specified as it is easy to make it to gooey or too dry in which case you would have to start over or add more of another ingredient to comply.
Step 4: Step 4: Paper Bag
After mixing those ingredients up pour all into paper bag. Make sure your paper bag has no holes and is larger in size. This will make it easier to close the bag, and gives you more room to shake the cereal mix. If there is more space for the cereal while shaking the bag it will get a better coverage
Step 5: Step 5: Almond Bark
Next melt almond bark. Do this in the microwave in 1-minute increments stirring in between minutes. Almond bark burns very easily and is very difficult to clean up as it turns very gummy. Therefor it is important to follow the minute rule when melting in the microwave. It should become soft after 2-3 minutes depending on the wattage of your machine.
Step 6: Step 6: Bringing in That 'holiday' Twist
IMPORTANT STEP: Now we bring in our ‘holiday’ take on the puppy chow. Pick one of the colors you have set out. I started with red. Add drops of the food coloring to the almond bark until it is a nice rich deep red. Then drizzle over the cereal mix you added to your paper bag.
Step 7: Step 7: Shake It Up
Shake all of the ingredients in your bag until all of the pieces are evenly coated. You will be able to see the red coloring through the powdered sugar giving it a cool red hue.
Step 8: Step 8: Wax Paper
Take your piece of wax paper and lay it out flat. Empty the contents of your bag onto it and make sure all pieces are coated, and check for the mix being too dry or gooey. If your mix looks good place it into an airtight container.
Step 9: Step 9: Repeat
You will repeat all of the above steps for as many colors as you have. When you get to step 6 add a different color until all of your almond bark is different colors. When you are done you will have created all different color almond barks for different holidays.
Step 10: Step 10: Final Destination
