Viking shield made of wood and metal elements.

The front is hand drawn and painted depicting a monster from northern mythology called Fenris or Fenrir who is a giant monster under the wolf's incarnation. He is the eldest of the children of Loki and the female giant Angerbrode and was known to bring the end of the world. The edges are beautifully decorated with knitting reed and decorative nails. At the back of the shield I applied a coat of wood stain with a brush. The diameter of the shield is 90cm, thickness 3cm and approx 8kg. It is ideal for decorating rooms, sidewalks, cellars or for medieval parades, photo shoots, etc.

Supplies

Supplies: timber, wood glue, metal decorations elements, paints, silicone tube for wood, knitting reed, decorative nails, wood stain.

Tools: jig saw, hammer, ruler, pencil, drilling machine, pencils, brushes, carving tools, gripping tools.

Step 1: Preparing the Wooden Base of the Shield.

Here is the part where we cut the wood boards, glue the boards, give the round shape of the shield and drill the holes for the metal parts that will mounted later.

Step 2: Drawing and Painting the Viking Design and Symbols on the Shield.

We choose a shield model and draw the outline with mithological creatures and symbols from the viking culture. The front is hand drawn and painted depicting a monster from northern mythology called Fenris or Fenrir who is a giant monster under the wolf's incarnation. He is the eldest of the children of Loki and the female giant Angerbrode and was known to bring the end of the world.

Afterwards, with the help of brushes we manually paint the shield and let it dry for a day.

Step 3: Mounting the Metal Elements From the Center of the Viking Shield.

This is the part where we grind the metal elements and then we drill the holes through which the nails will pass. With the help of a hand carving tool and a drilling machine we prepare the holes in the wood shield so everything will fit perfect together. At the end we make sure that the nails will not come off so we bend the nails behind the shield with a hammer.

Step 4: Mounting the Metal Elements From the Edge of the Viking Shield.

Here is the part were we mount another metal elements on the edge of the shield with wood silicone. First, we make the holes in the wood were the metal elements will fit in with the help of a dremel tool kit and some carving tools. We fix the metal elements in the wood, we remove the excess silicone and we finish by paiting it nicely.

Step 5: Mounting the Knitting Reed on the Edges of the Shield and the Shield Handle and Forearm.

We fix the knitting reed on the edges of the shield using decorative nails. We paint the back of the shield with one layer of wood stain. We fix the forged metal handle with some screws At the end we mount the metal forearm and we wrapped it in deer skin.
