Introduction: Beach Cover Up to Loose Blouse

About: I'm a musician, crafter, dessert lover and proud grandma.

If you have more beachwear that you can use, or if you bought a beautiful sarong while on vacation, that is barely used, you´ll find this Instructable handy.

Many sarongs are made with soft fabrics, beautiful patterns and they bring us memories of that great vacation. Lets take advantage of those characteristics and transform them into something we´ll be able to wear more often.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

  • A sarong (beach wrap, pareo, cover up) mine is 1.5 x 1.5 m
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Bias tape
  • Thread
  • Needle

Step 2: Make the Neck Opening

Lay the sarong on a flat surface.

Ffold it on half, then fold it on half again to have a small square.

The fringes will be at the bottom. Measure 6cm at the top corner that has all the folds, and cut it out.

Now unfold it one time and you´ll have the neck opening. Cut it lower at the front (as shown in the last image of this step)

Step 3: Bias Tape

Sew the bias tape, first by hand, then use the sewing machine.

Step 4: Sew the Sides

Measure the width of your hips. Use that measure to decide where you´ll make the next two seams.

The distance between the seams is hips/2 + 3 cm. I made a drawing so you can understand where to sew. I draw red lines to show you where these seams go.

Make both seams by hand first, try it on an if you are happy use the sewing machine.

Step 5: Have Fun!

Now you have a new top! It looks stylish, and its perfect for hot days.
