Image Transfer on Fabric With Vinyl and Crayons- Two Ways

Drawing on fabric with crayons is nearly impossible, since fabric stretches and warps the image and crayons don't so much glide on fabric, as they drag. You can always use sanding paper method of image transfer, but that has to be drawn by hand. I'm not good at drawing but I wanted a lama t-shirt, so I used this method to create a sharp image.

Supplies

--crayons

--adhesive vinyl roll (cheap vinyl rolls can be found in discount stores)

--craft knife

--vinyl cutter machine

--iron

--parchment paper

Step 1: METHOD 1 - WITHOUT VINYL CUTTER

Trace an image directly onto a vinyl and cut it out with a craft knife.

Place a wooden board inside your t-shirt (it will prevent the crayons from leaking onto the back of the t-shirt).

Transfer the vinyl cut-out onto a t-shirt.

Remove paper sleeves from crayons and use a pencil sharpener or a small cheese grater to shave crayons directly onto the t-shirt.

Use just one color, or a combination if different colors and continue until the whole image is covered in crayon shavings.

Step 2: IRONING

Place a sheet of baking parchment on top of the t-shirt and use an iron (the lowest temperature setting) to melt the shavings into the fabric. You will be able to see the crayons being melted through the baking parchment.

Wait for the melted crayons to cool down before lifting the baking parchment off.

If there are any bold spots, you can add more crayon shavings and blend them with the rest of the design.

Peel the vinyl outline off the fabric and enjoy.

**** This method produces a thicker layer of malted crayons (unlike method 2), so I'd recommend using it on fabric that doesn't have to be washed too often, like canvas tote bags or aprons.

Step 3: METHOD 2 -VINYL CUTTER

Cut your design in a vinyl cutter and weed the vinyl in reverse.

Iron your t-shirt, place it on a table and put a wooden board inside the t-shirt so that melted crayons don't seep onto the back of the t-shirt.

Transfer the vinyl cut-out onto a t-shirt and press it well.

Use one or more crayons to fill in the image. Basically, just color the t-shirt like you would color a piece of paper. Fabric will stretch a little bit, but thanks to the vinyl outline it will remain in place and the image won't be warped.

Place a sheet of parchment paper on top of the image and run an iron over the image to set it. Iron has to be set to low.
