Introduction: Steampunk Necklace From Old Pocket Watch

About: maker, steampunk lover!

For this project I decided to transform an old broken pocket watch into something different, I might as well have waited for some trash to treasure contest .. but you know,
When inspiration comes to a maker, it can't wait! Grab your tools and hands to work.

Tools:

  • Arc saw (for precise cutting)
  • Spray paint
  • Glue
  • Precision screwdriver
  • Flat file
  • Caliper gauge

Step 1:

The first thing I did was disassemble the watch. This was simple because it only consisted of a few small screws that I carefully removed and kept in a safe place ...
Upon finding some small gears in good condition I decided to use them as part of the aesthetics of my project.

Step 2:

With a caliper gauge, I took the measurements of the metal circles that covered the clock machine and passed them to a design site (in my case I used Adobe Illustrator) but with any CAD software
the same result is obtained ... the design I made was a diamond shape, since I thought it was great to work with the concept of a jewel and it is also something easy to work due to its straight lines ...

Step 3:

After printing and gluing the template on the metal circle, I cut the template with the arc saw and then with the mini flat file I gave it a refined finishing.

Step 4:

I painted the covers to the front and back of the watch with a black spray paint to create a little contrast.

Step 5:

Now I put the gears back on, but i took the liberty of messing around with their position a bit, so they look good inside the diamond silhouette.

Step 6:

I put the screws back, and reassembled the pieces! And finally I put a chain to complete the transition from an old pocket watch to a new and original steampunk style necklace!

Step 7: Conclution

I loved doing this project.
Here you can see a before and after photo. I am a steampunk and a handmade jewerly enthusiast. I would like to know your opinion. see you soon!
