Introduction: The Self-Suspending Sculpture

About: I've always loved taking what ever I could find and making something new out of it. I love clocks, Lego, games, and computers. I'm also an active person. I ski, hike, camp ect. So making functional things has …

Hey guys! Just wanted to share with you my latest labor of love. 3 hours to get it right

It's an art piece that suspends its self using the weight and mechanical advantage. As the contraption tries to close it increases in length wedging its self between (in this case) The wall unit and the speaker.

This art piece was directly based on Dan Greybar's Cavity Mechanism #2

I used popsicle sticks, skewers, straws, 2 thread spools, yarn, baby food jar full of water, and some hot glue to hold it all together. The more weight I add to the jar, the more it wants to stay up!

A series of pullies gives the weight a mechanical advantage over the pressure trying to keep it open, therefore it tries to close, keeping it in place.

Better pics and maybe a full Instructable coming!
