I Made a "Time Stood Still" Clock...

I decided to make this project and video, in November 2023, due to a major event that occurred...

In this Instructable, you can learn about the work process, but this creation comes also with an important message that I felt that I need to share...

Step 1: The Video

Step 2: Printing the Clock Template

I started by designing a template for the clock in PhotoShop, and printed it.

Step 3: Cutting the Clock Front Circular Shape

I took a thin plywood board leftover, and marked a circle according to the printed clock size. This will be used as the front circle of the clock.

I cut the circle using my Dremel tool, Plunge Router Attachment and Dremel 561 Multi Purpose Cutting Bit. (Very nice bit, I'm using it a lot!)

Step 4: Marking the Clock Digits & Hours

I put the printed clock template over the cut circle, and using a utility knife I cut the 3 digits (2, 3, 9). The cutting marks were transferred to the plywood circle.

Later I marked the other points for the hours, with the same method.

Step 5: Cutting the Digits

Using the Dremel tool, Plunge Router Attachment and Dremel 561 MultiPurpose Cutting Bit, I cut the shapes of the 2, 3, 9 digits.

Step 6: Improving the Digits Shapes

Using a wood file and a chisel, I improved the shape of the digits to be more accurate and with sharp corners.

The results of CNC are better, but it was good enough :)

Step 7: Drilling Holes for the Other Hours

Using a drill driver and 15mm drill bit, I drilled one hole in the center of the circle, and 9 holes in the position of the hours (except for 2, 3, 9).

Step 8: Cutting the Clock's Ring Frame

I took a 10mm scrap plywood, and using a Jigsaw, I cut a "ring" shape which is a bit bigger than the front circle.

The accuracy of the cut wasn't matter at this point, because I'll sand it later.

Step 9: Gluing the Clock Front & Frame

I connected the front circle with the digits, to the ring frame, using a wood glue and some clamps.

Step 10: Sanding the Clock's Circle

After drying, I sanded the glued parts using a Disc Sander (Or more accurate - an angle grinder with a sander attachment)

Step 11: Painting the Clock

After sanding, I painted the clock with black 2X spray.

Step 12: Adding the Light Diffuser Panel

I took a Light diffuser panel that I had from an old panel led lamp, and cut it to fit the inner ring.

I glued the diffuser to the back side of the clock, using Epoxy glue.

Step 13: Finishing the 9 Digit

After adding the diffuser panel, I glued a small circle point to the front side, which was missing for the 9 digit.

Step 14: The Painted Clock

Step 15: Preparing the Led Strip

I took a piece of 12v led strip, and I soldered a DC Female Connector Jack to it, so I can easily connect the 12v power adapter later.

Step 16: Gluing the Led Strip

I glued the DC Female connector using hot glue gun, and the led strip around the inner ring.

Step 17: The "Clock" Is Ready, Let's Check It

The work is done, let's review the result:

So what is this "Clock" only with hours of 2, 3, 9 and without clock hands?

Well, as noted in the introduction, I made this clock and video back November 2023.

I'm from Israel. I guess that most of you are aware about the horrifying massacre that my country has gone through by Hamas terror organization, on October 7, 2023.

Many babies, kids, women, men, old people were slaughtered with horrifying acts, inhumane acts by Hamas.

That time 239 Israeli hostages were kidnapped to Gaza by Hamas, including kids, babies...!

The Time stood still for these 239 Israeli Hostages in Gaza and their families, for over than 180 days.

So... the numbers on the clock were symbolically chosen according to that number at the time. The time is frozen, so the clock hands are missing...

Update to the video which was edited in November: During December 2023, part of the hostages, including kids, toddlers and women, were released by Hamas, in exchange for the release of terrorists and murderers. The stories from these hostages about their time in captivity, are very hard for listening...

Since then, there are about 140 Israelis still in Gaza, in horrible conditions, in underground tunnels, for over than 180 days!!! It's unfathomable.

This number is including the whole Bibas family members (Father, mother, 4 years old kid, 9 months old baby!)

Many of these 140 hostages and kids are already dead, and the time is ticking for the rest....

Bring them home, NOW!

I would like to share with you another video that I created about the massacre, in order to illustrate what happened during the 7.10.2023.

This was my small contribution to the public diplomacy / publicity efforts, to express the situation in my own different visual & "creative" way. (Published on Oct 19, 2023)

It was hard emotionally to make the video.. 😢
