For tailgate parties or watching sports on TV with friends, here is a favorite team logo display to hold your wine box. The method here creates a 3D effect of the logo by using two layers of wood for the box.

Supplies

Baltic birch plywood 1/8 inch thickness
laser cutter
miscellaneous acrylic paint colors
wood glue
clamps

Step 1:

There are two layers to the Wine Box Box. An inner box and an outer box. The outer box will be used to cut out the logo to be used. It is suggested that you use a logo with minimal colors to make it easier to paint the cut out pieces.

Take the side of the outer box panel and cut out the logo with the laser. Select which pieces you want to use for the raised portion. Paint with the logo colors appropriate for the cutouts you have chosen. Depending on the logo, you may be able to use the other cutout pieces to create the reverse image on the other side of the Wine Box Box.

Step 2:

Paint the inner box area where the logo will overlay with the background color for your logo. Do this by aligning the outer and inner walls of the box side to make sure you have covered enough area. When the paint has dried, glue the two box panels together by spreading glue over the entire surface, aligning the panels using the finger joints, and placing them on a flat surface. Weight the panels with a heavy object(s) to get a good bond without any warping.

Step 3:

Glue the top, bottom, and back panels of the inner and outer boxes together as described above. Other images can be used besides logos as well. The back panel could have an image on it if desired. Etching other areas with designs or characters is another possibility. The fall out pieces from the laser cutting can also be used and glued to the wine box box.

Step 4:

Glue the slide guide pieces to the front edges of the outer box. Also glue the grip pieces to the door slide. This creates the slots for the door pieces to slide into.

Step 5:

Once the paint and glue has dried on all walls of the Wine Box Box, assemble and glue the walls together by mating the finger joints of all the walls. Clamp the walls together until the glue has dried. If you don't have clamps, use the weighted compression technique described above. Party on.
