Introduction: 5 Minute Nail Gag

About: I get a kick out of making stuff from wood, bytes, food, pixels, plastic and silicon, and occasionally metal and fabric. I aspire to be a jack of all trades. Member of Halifax Makerspace.

A member recently forgot his hat at Halifax Makerspace. I sent him these pictures to let him know.

Supplies

  • large nail
  • neodymium magnet or two
  • hacksaw
  • grinder, file or sandpaper

Step 1: Cut It and Stick It

  1. Use a hacksaw to cut a large nail on a slight angle.
  2. Stick a neodymium magnet or two to a wall or doorframe. Our doorframes are metal, but you could just tape the magnet to the wall.
  3. Use a bench grinder, sandpaper or file to deburr the cut end.
  4. Pin the hat beween the nail and magnet.

It looks realistic, even up close!
