Introduction: Adjustable Feet on Primus Firehole 100 Camp Stove for <$5
If you have ever cooked eggs on a two burner camp stove, you know how nice it is to have a nice level cooking surface. This is often more difficult than you think as seemingly flat surfaces, like this log bench I made, are not actually entirely level. Having adjustable feet on your camp stove is a nice feature and means you don't have to use rocks, wood chips, etc to try and level your stove or cooking surface. This Instructable will show you how to convert the existing feet on your Primus Firehole 100 stove to adjustable feet, for <$5.
Step 1: Buy Your Supplies
you will need:
- 4x M6 x30mm hex bolts (fully threaded shaft)
- 4x M6 hex nuts
- some loctite to secure the nuts
should run you $3 to $4 depending on how/where you buy them.
Note that I purchased some M6 locking nuts to try, but the torque required to tighten them causes them to slip in the rubber foot socket. You can mess around with this if you like, but I just went with regular hex nuts and used some loctite.
Also note that I didn't use a washer but you probably could do that as well if you like for an additional... $.50 probably.
Step 2: Simply Re-use the Existing Feet
So for some reason, Primus chose to use an M6 phillips/flat button top bolt to secure the feet, even though the feet have a cut out to accept M6 bolt heads...I assume you have to buy the more expensive model to get the $3 in hardware required to make these feet adjustable...
Step 3: Unscrew the Foot
use a screwdriver to unscrew the foot and remove the existing bolt
Step 4: Insert Your M6 Hex Bolts and Add Some Loctite to the Threads
just pop it in, add a washer if you wish (not pictured), and dab the loctite near the base of the protruding bolt.
Step 5: Secure the Nut
I was able to hand tighten the nut sufficiently, but you could use a socket or something if you wish.
Step 6: Re-thread the Foot on to the Stove
yep, just re-thread it onto the stove
Step 7: Repeat for Remaining Feet and Level As Necessary
so far so good, although I may regret not having that washer on there at some point.
