Introduction: Animal Crossing on the I-4
Hello my name is Isaac Angulo and i am a freshman at John. A. Ferguson, and this is my design for a bridge that would allow for animals to cross the I-4, a road in Florida notorious for separating the north and south of Florida, making it impossible for animals to complete their migration.
Supplies
- Fusion 360
Step 1: Find a Problem
Find a real world issue that can be fixed by a bridge, in my case the I-4 in Florida poses a problem as it stands in the way of animal migration, and by building multiple of these bridges along the i-4 it would give the animals a place to cross.
Step 2: Taking Measurements
Take measurements of the thing you want to bridge, in my case the I-4, this will be needed for the designing part of this challenge.
Step 3: Designing the Bridge
design the bridge however you want, in my case I used fusion 360, sketched length of the i-4 and made a pair of arcs slightly larger than the 50 meters of the i-4. For the fence i used a box i made and used the sweep command to extend it along both sides of the bridge. I added a column in between the roads of the i-4 for support
Step 4: Adding Support
In Fusion 360 add a new body using the box feature the size of the road and the cars to insure the new support does not get into the way of functionality, select the pillar and the bottom of the bridge as the faces to connect and select the box you made as a body to avoid, generate shapes and select the best looking one with the most coverage. If none of the options appeal to you regenerate shapes until you find one you like. After pressing enter delete the box you made.
Step 5: Real World
In the real world this bridge would be made of concrete and steel reinforcements, and there would be multiple scattered across the I-4. Each bridge would have dirt and flora from the area on it to put animals at ease. this would allow numerous animals to complete their migration safe from cars running them over.
