Introduction: Apple Pizza Pie - Quick to Make and Tastes Great
This is a quick little recipe that will satisfy anyone, young or old. Once you have everything ready it really only takes as long as cooking a pizza, so it's great for those unexpected visits.
There are two ways to do this, either the really quick and lazy way with store bought ready made ingredients. Or you can go ahead and make everything yourself. In this instructable I'll show you how to make everything apart from the pizza base.
The really great thing about this is that you can make loads of crumble and store it in a container. The same goes for the apple filling, separate it into portion sizes and pop it into the freezer until you need it.
So lets go ahead and make a start on that apple filling...

So lets go ahead and make a start on that apple filling...
Step 1: Apple Filling - What You Need
3lbs of apples - peeled and cored
2 Tbs Lemon Juice
2 1/2 cups of light brown sugar
1 cup of cornflour
1 tsp mixed spice
1 tsp cinnamon
900ml of water
Pinch of salt
2 Tbs Lemon Juice
2 1/2 cups of light brown sugar
1 cup of cornflour
1 tsp mixed spice
1 tsp cinnamon
900ml of water
Pinch of salt
Step 2: Apple Filling - the Process
Step 1 - Cut the apples into small cubes and place them into a large bowl.
Step 2 - Add the lemon juice to the apples and toss them all about to make sure that the apples are coated.
Step 3 - In a large pan add the sugar, cornflour, mixed spice, cinnamon and salt. Mix all the ingredients together.
Step 4 - Add the water and put the pan onto a medium heat stirring all the ingredients together. Bring to the boil.
Step 5 - Once the pan is boiling carefully add the apple chunks. Make sure you don't splash any of the syrup onto you.
Step 6 - Cover and simmer for 6 - 10 minutes, making sure to stir it occasionally, until the syrup has reached a consistency that you're happy with.
Step 7 - Leave to cool for at least 30 minutes before placing in containers. I recommend waiting at least 3 hours if you're going to use it for the apple pizza pie.

Step 3: Apple Filling - the Alternative
Like I said there are store bought alternatives to this. The main one that I use is Hartley's apple filling, you usually find it in the home baking aisle.
One tip with this is to ensure that the apple chunks are small, so get a knife in the tin and try to cut up the chunks before putting on the pizza base.

Step 4: The Crumble Topping - Ingredients
1 cup of porridge oats
1 cup of light brown sugar
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup of butter
1 tbs of cinnamon
1/2 tbs of mixed spice
1 cup of light brown sugar
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup of butter
1 tbs of cinnamon
1/2 tbs of mixed spice
Step 5: The Crumble Topping - the Process
Remember that this recipe is designed to make more than you need so that you have it whenever you need it.
Step 1 - In a large bowl add the flour, sugar, oats, cinnamon and mixed spice
Step 2 - Mix them altogether making sure to get the cinnamon and mixed spice all the way through it.
Step 3 - Add the butter and, using a fork, mash all the ingredients together. Remember that you're trying to create a crumble so there shouldn't be any butter left and the everything should be well mixed in. Look at the pictures if you're unsure.

Step 6: The Crumble Topping - the Alternative
Like the apple filling there will be alternatives, I've never actually tried any of the store bought crumbles. Generally I just make loads of my own and store it until I need it.
If you decide to try a store bought crumble try and get one that is best suited for apple crumble. Also let me know how you get on with this and how it turns out for you.

Step 7: Putting It Altogether - the Ingredients
Now that you have the basics ready or bought in we can go ahead and make the apple pizza pie.
What you need:
Apple filling
Crumble topping
Pizza base
(For the icing)
2 cups Icing sugar
1 cup butter
1 tbs milk
1 tsp vanilla essence

Step 8: Putting It Altogether - the Process
Step 1 - Check what temperature your pizza base suggest cooking at. I generally go with 170C(fan oven), go ahead and preheat the oven.
Step 2 - Cover the pizza in the apple filling making sure that every part of it is coated even if it just in the syrup
Step 3 - Using a spoon gently cover the whole pizza with the crumble topping. Again making sure that everything is covered, this time you're not wanting to see any of the apple
Step 4 - Place the prepared pizza onto an oven tray and into the oven for 12 - 15 minutes. The pizza is ready once any uncovered area of the base is golden brown or everything looks cooked. Check the pictures for a guideline.
Step 5 - While the pizza is in the oven you can prepare the butter cream icing topping. In a bowl place the sugar, butter, milk and vanilla. Using a hand mixer blend all the ingredients together until you get a thick consistency. Try not to 'taste' all of the butter icing before the apple pizza pie is ready.
Step 6 - Once the pizza is ready allow it to cool before putting the butter cream icing otherwise it will melt on top of the pizza and not taste the same.

Step 9: Finally Enjoy
That's it all done, as you can it doesn't take that much effort to get it done and it tastes great.
You can serve whatever way you like, but to be honest you probably won't have a chance to do anything fancy because it'll be gone before you get any yourself. I've been forced to make a fair few of these now for my friends now and every time they can't get enough of them.
