Introduction: Awesome Hat From Wool Socks!

A super easy to make hat. Great gift, or just cool to keep for yourself! All it takes is a little bit of sewing knowledge and about a hour of your time. If you cant sew, here is a good instructable. https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Sew./#step1

Step 1: What You Need.

2-3 Wool socks.
It depends on how big of a hat you want. I use one sock,"body", if you will, for the grey/white part of the hat. The white hat took about 2 and a half socks for the red and black,"rim". The solid red rim has the red parts of two cut in half and turned sideways.
Good Choppers.
No, your teeth don't quite cut it. (hehe, "cut it") Socks are thick.
Thread/Needle
Use your own discretion on the color, heck use a friends discretion too! You will want the colors to blend. More than one color might be needed. Also, needles are a must. Twigs don't work.
A good work area.
Don't be a slob like me. Use a table or something.

Step 2: The Bottom Half

Cut the sock.
Cut length wise, or "hot dog style" from the open end of the sock down to where the red turns to grey/white/whatever. Then cut around the sock following that border until you remove the red. Cut the red into even parts that can fit around your head when combined. Cut the rest of the sock hot dog style and open it up. Its like biology, but with a sock instead of that creepy dead frog. Trim until you have a rectangle.
Sew your rim.
Connect those red strips of fabric that you so awkwardly fit around your head!
Sew that to the big grey/white/whatever rectangle.
Trust me, it needs to be done.
Also...
When you make your knots, make them huge! this is very lose fabric. I even secured some of mine with superglue!

Step 3: The Top Half.

More cutting!
Fold the hat into fourths. cut little points into each fourth. see photo.
And sewing!
Sew the red part together with red, black, or whatever color thread you decided on. Then, sew up the back of the hat, and start sewing the points together. you might no be able to sew all the way around. chances are, you will need to re-thread and start in different places. Make sure you don't sew it flat! connect all the points!

Step 4: Done

Your'e done!
Well, I hope so. now you are free to do whatever you want with this hat and your new-found skills!
Here are some ideas...
Wear it.
Teach the homeless how to make them.
Give them away like candy.
Make one for every animal that you see.
Decorate a wall with them.
Replace your carpet with hats!
Make a hat for every day of the week!
Okay, i'm done now.
I added a cool picture that I found on the internet a long time ago. For your enjoyment, of course.
