Introduction: BMW Windscreen Extension
Why use this for extending your windscreen?
I came to this idea because me and my father like the way the original black windscreen looks on his BMW R1200GSA. We were looking around for some ways to extend his windscreen to stop extra wind hitting the top of his helmed. But all the extensions we found were with a metal piece and a small screen on top of that witch doesn’t’ look pretty. This way also blocks some of your vision ahead. The other ways to solve this problem is buying a bigger screen. These screens don’t look as good on the bike then the original. So we started thinking of ways we can extend the screen without replacing or adding ugly features to the bike.
So we came up with this design. It pushes the windscreen up by 5cm witch seem not much but was enough to block the wind a huge amount.
Following questions may occur.
Is the adjustability of the windscreen still possible (Up and down movement)?
Yes this is still the case, the mechanism is not changed or replaced.
With the screen higher up will the wind hit your chest while riding?
No the extension is so designed that the wind is diverted away and blocked from hitting your chest.
Can be used for these models of BMW
- R1200GS(A) / R1250GS(A) /
- S1000XR / F900XR / F850 GS(A)
- Other BMW models
Durability and safety
Because it is made out of Black ABS it is able to withstand everyday life and long trips. The material withstands UV light and warm weather. At motorway speeds its just as stable as the standard windscreen without the extension.
These things have been experienced with my father who travels often with his bike. This is to Italy, switserland, Germany and France. He had a good experience with the extension.
