Introduction: Batgirl Utility Belt 2014

So for those of you who don't know, I am a huge batman fan. Like I have a problem, I have a batman lunch box, the box set of the animated series, the box set of Batman Beyond, a batman shower curtain, a batman bathmat, a batman umbrella, and I wear batman board shorts whenever I swim.
I think a huge part of why I love Batman as a franchise so much, especially the animated universe, are all the awesome female characters there are. One of my favorites was and still is is Batgirl aka Barbara Gordon. Completely awesome person who was a female batman but was her own amazing character. In Batman Beyond she became the police commissioner of Gotham, and was an amazing tough old lady. Basically I'm saying I want to be Barbara Gordon when I grow up.

When I heard she got a redesign and I saw the new utility belt I knew I had to make. I might end up doing a full cosplay, I haven't quite decided yet... What proceeds is the project that was way more intense than I thought it would be, hence the two videos and why I haven't been posting anything lately. If you choose to recreate good luck, but it will be worth it! I feel completely awesome wearing it, even over normal clothes!

Step 1: GATHER ALL THE THINGS!

1. 1-3 yards of Yellow Duck Cloth. Any 100% cotton fabric that is fairly hefty will do. If you want the belt to be all 1 piece you need 2-3 yards but if you don't mind the seam then you can do it on 1 yard.

2. Matching Yellow Thread 100% Cotton. If you grab the little Gutermann spools you will need 2.

3. 2 inch Metal O-ring available here

4. 1.5 inch Metal O-ring available at the same place

5. ALL OF THE PATTERNS ABOVE All of the images should be scaled to a standard sheet of paper sized, except the large pocket pattern which that image should be 12 inches by 12 inches. And the Yoke Pattern, that image should be 13 inches by 13 inches.

*whistle* I definitely don't feel like sewing for a while. If you love batgirl and the new redesign as much as I do I highly recommend project. But I also urge you to be a proficient sewer and very fond of military pockets.
