Introduction: Birthday Cake Scones
I just moved into a new neighborhood and wasn't super sure about everything, but my neighbors were very nice and accommodating with my questions on the area, so I decided to make them these scones.
They are buttery, a little bit cakey, and just lovely. I enjoy that they are not overpoweringly sweet but still throw out a birthday cake vibe. Another great thing about these scones is that they are very affordable to produce, making them great for gifting and groups. I really hope you enjoy them and that they bring a little sunshine to your day!
Step 1: Ingredients
2 1/2 Cups White Flour, All Purpose
1 Tbsp Baking Powder
1/3 Tsp Salt, Fine
1 Stick Butter, Cool
1/3 Cup Granulated Sugar
2/3 Cup Milk
1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar
Warm Water
Step 2: Preheat
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 3: Mix Your Dry Ingredients
Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Step 4: Cube Butter
Cut your butter into tablespoons.
Step 5: Butter and Sugar
Crumble the butter in, you can use a tool but I just used my hands. When the mixture is crumbly, you are good to go. After your butter and dry mix are combined, add in the sugar and mix again.
Step 6: Wet Ingredients
Combine with the milk, mix again. Crumbly dough is fine. Add in your sprinkles when the dough is complete, and mix again.
Step 7: Flour Surface
Flour a surface for rolling out the dough. You can use a counter, I layed out some wax paper to reduce mess.
Step 8: Roll Out Dough
Roll out the dough, cut it into your preferred shape. You can use cookie cutters, but I like the traditional choppy look personally, and it's easy. :)
Step 9: Bake
Grease a baking sheet, I recommend butter. Lay them out evenly, and bake them for 12-14 minutes.
Step 10: Glaze
Mix your powdered sugar with warm water for the glaze. Pour this over the baked and cooled scones. If you add jimmies during this process, they will hold onto the scone.
Step 11: Serve
Plate them up and enjoy! They can also be frozen for up to two months, so they are great to make ahead and enjoy when you have a sweets craving.
