Introduction: CD4543 7-segment Decoder for Common Cathode (CC) and Common Anode (CA) Displays
This project demonstrates how to use the CD4543 7-segment decoder driver chip with a common anode type display. This is a very useful IC because it can be used with either common anode (CA) or common cathode (CC) type displays simply by changing the PHASE pin from a 0 to a 1.
Supplies
1 - Breadboard
1 - 8 position DIP switch
1 - CD4543 IC
7 - 10K resistors
2 - 0.1uf capacitors (place on the breadboard power rails for noise)
1 - 7-segment CA or CC display
1 - 5V power source or use 3 x AA batteries for 4.5V

Step 1: Circuit Diagram
The circuit diagram shows the test set up to drive one 7-segment display. You can use the phase pin to switch between CA and CC type displays. Activating the latch pin will freeze the last supplied data entry on the display. Activating the blanking pin will blank the display completely. Switch the phase pin from 0 to 1 to switch between CC and CA type displays.
Latch pin 0 - latched
Latch pin 1 - unlatched
Phase pin 0 - CC display
Phase pin 1 - CA display
Blank pin 0 - normal display
Blank pin 1 - display blanked
