Introduction: Cabin on the Ridge
The log cabin is a diorama favorite so I decided to make my own variation of this iconic creation. It depicts a cabin on a ridge. It rests on rocks which serve as stilts to protect from overflows from the nearby stream that winds down the ridge.
Materials:
-blue, black, and white acrylic paint
-A cardboard box
-Some newspaper
-Hot glue (other modeling glue will work to)
-More cardboard
-Lots of sticks
-Some popsicle sticks
Step 1: Painting and Building the Diorama Base
I built the diorama base out of cardboard then covered it with newspaper. I painted the ground gray, using a mix of black and white acrylic paint. The sky is a mix of blue and white. And the river is blue.
Step 2: Building the Log Cabin Base
Start by using the pattern above to make a box that will be used as a base for your log cabin. Paint the box a dark color.
Step 3: Adding Logs and a Roof
The amount of sticks that you will need will very on how wide the sticks are but you can follow the basic pattern shown above to get something similar to what I got. Alternate the stick lengths to create a log cabin look. The roof is made out of popsicle sticks. All of the materials where glued on using hot glue but other modeling glue will work.
Step 4: Attaching the Diorama and the Cabin
The log cabin sits on rocks and the diorama base are attached using more hot glue.
