Now, I know there are lots of cassette tape wallets out there, such as

but mine is a completely different creation. More a money clip per se than a wallet, my cassette tape money holder does not involve cloth or sewing of any kind. I'm sure many people have thought of this idea, or may have even made it and I just haven't seen it online yet but if you have any suggestions on how to do this better or hints and tips please comment. (Also, don't forget to rate this instructable!)

The materials needed are on the next page, and are extremely easy to procure.

DISCLAIMER: Don't burn yourself, this instructable uses hot glue. Ask for help from a trusted adult. Do not eat the screws.

Step 1: Materials

The things that you'll need to build this money holder are pretty easy to find, hopefully you'll have them around the house:

@ 1 cassette tape (if you don't have one head to a thrift store to pick one up for under a dollar)
@ 1 hot glue gun (aka Hot Melt) and "ammo"
@ 1 tiny phillips head screwdriver (or, if your cassette doesn't have screws, a flathead for prying it open)
@ 1 tiny hinge (I think mine was brass, it came in a pack of four with screws for $4 US)

If you don't have the hinge or the hot glue gun (heaven forbid the lack of the latter) head down to a hobby shop or hardware store to pick one up.

Step 2: Open the Cassette

First, take the phillips head and unscrew all the screws. If you want, you can save them for another project in whatever you want (I used a small plastic cannister thing that I found lying around). Then, just lift the top half of the cassette off and place it nearby.

Step 3: The Insides

Hope you saw this coming: remove them. You can save the ribbon if you want, it would make a cool wig or streamer or confetti or rope or something.

Step 4: Prepping for the Glue

To make the hot glue stick real well, you need to rough up the area you're going to be gluing on. At the top of the cassette halves, up near where the label is / would be file the area a little. Also, if you want you can file the hinge but that's not that necessary. Lay the two halves with the tops both filed down on the inside facing up about the hinge width from each other.

Step 5: Gluing

Warm up the hot glue gun, and drop some glue on the roughed up area of one of the halves. Glue that side of the hinge on.

WARNING: DO NOT LET THE GLUE HIT THE ACTUAL ROTATING HINGE PART OR IT WILL NOT ROTATE

When the first half is dry, glue on the next half.

Step 6: Finished!

Once the glue is dry, you're done! Optionally, you can add some cloth tape to the crack formed between the two halves connected by the hinged to make sure your money doesn't fall out. This is a good idea. Also, the tape can be labeled, letting the world know that this cassette is your money holder! To fit bills in, try folding them in half lengthwise two times and place them inside. The snaps at the bottom of the cassette should be closeable to keep everything closed up.
