Introduction: Cat Ear Hat (No Knitting)
This cat ear hat is super easy and fast to make! Make one of these for a cool kid you know or for the cool cat that is yourself.
By modifying an existing toque, no knitting is required! However, if you do possess the magical skill of knitting, I think you could adapt the instructions. For the rest of us muggles, you can still feel like a wizard when you transform an ordinary toque into a super awesome one.
Wear your cat ear hat and keep those human ears warm!
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
You will need:
- a toque (keep in mind that the toque will be smaller when you are done)
- scissors
- needle or sewing machine
- thread
Step 2: Cut Your Hat
Cut off the top portion of your toque, taking care not to unravel the yarn too much. You should now have a tube that looks like a rectangle.
It might be easier to do the next step of sewing before doing this cutting step.
Step 3: Sew Your Top
Turn your toque tube inside-out.
Lay the tube flat and sew-up the top of your toque in a straight line, stretching it out a little. I ended up using a sewing machine for this. I would suggest using a shorter length stitch to catch all the yarn ends so that they don't unravel. If you are going to use a sewing machine too, try sandwiching your toque between some thin paper or using a walking foot. This will help you feed the knitted fabric. I also serged the sewed end to clean it up a bit.
After closing up the top, flip your hat back to right-side out.
Step 4: Sew Your Ears
The ears are formed from the corners you created.
Using a needle and thread, sew one corner on an angle to form a triangle. Pull the thread slightly to gather the fabric a little bit and form an ear. Do the same with the other corner.
Step 5: Done!
That's it! You're done!
