Introduction: Christmas Shortbread Cookies

About: I was born in Cornwall Ontario Canada my family followed my father’s work construction, to Mississauga and Toronto, Ontario. My father worked on famous construction sites as the Cornwall Sea Way, the Commerce …

Shortbread cookies are one of the easiest cookies to make; unless you add something special they only need three ingredients, flour, sugar, and butter.

To make them a little festive this time of the year, I like to add sprinkles.

Step 1: Ingredients

1 cup or 250 ml butter or margarine softened

1/2 cup or 125 ml brown sugar

2 1/2 or 625 ml cups flour

1 egg

Sprinkles

Step 2: Utensils

Bowl

Cookie cutter or a sharp knife

Pastry cutter

Measuring cup

Rolling pin and board

Brush

Cookie sheet

Parchment paper

Cooling wrack

Step 3: Instructions

Add flour, sugar, and butter, to a bowl and mix; I used a pastry cutter and cut the butter into the dry ingredients until everything was well mixed. It should look like small balls with no powder.

Move the batter to a lightly floured flat surface and work the dough until it comes together and forms a ball. If it is too sticky, wrap in plastic and refrigerate for approximately 20 minutes.

On a lightly floured surface roll the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness.

Cut the dough with a cookie cutter or a sharp knife to desired shapes.

Using a brush, coat the top of the cookies with egg and add the sprinkles.

Place on a dry cookie sheet; since I coated the cookies with sprinkles, I placed the cookies on parchment paper.

Step 4: Baking

Preheat oven to 325° 160° C.

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for approximately 10-12 minutes, do not let cookies brown.

Let cool on cookie sheets and then remove to wire racks.

Yields approximately 30 cookies depending on size.
