Introduction: Classic Red Velvet Cake Frosting
How to make the classic red velvet cake frosting. (Video above) I think the cream cheese frosting so many places put on red velvet cake is just WRONG! This is how my mother and grandmother made this delicious frosting. Put it on red velvet or just a plain chocolate cake.

Step 1: Gather Ingredients
All purpose flour
Whole milk
Granulated sugar
Butter
Vanilla - I used a clear vanilla extract to keep my frosting really white
Step 2: Cook the Frosting Base
In a sauce pan add 5 tbls. flour and 1 cup of milk. Cook it over medium low heat stirring constantly until it thickens up. Should be the consistency of a thick pudding.
Step 3: Cream Butter and Sugar
Cream 1 cup room temperature butter and 1 cup sugar until it is light and fluffy.
Step 4: Beat in Vanilla
Beat in 1 tsp of vanilla extract. Use clear vanilla extract to keep your frosting a bright beautiful white.
Step 5: Beat in Flour and Sugar Mixture
Beat in the flour and sugar mixture. Beat until it reaches a nice spreadable consistency. Frost your cake and enjoy this delicious classic frosting!
