Introduction: Community Collage Project

Create a beautiful work of art made by you, your friends and family.

There are nine 12" x 12" panels in which every individual will have to creatively collage. The panels will make up a larger image by using light and dark patterns. The pattern I will be showing you is a ring pattern but you can make whatever pattern you would like.

Step 1: Supplies

Materials:

9 cardboard or wood panels (12" x 12" each)
Glue
Scissors
Lots of magazines or other collaging materials

Step 2: Creating Your Template

This template uses rings, but you can make one with spirals, squares, or any other shape.

The first thing you will need to do is to make a grid like this one on your 9 panels.

Once you've gridded all the panels you can use this image to added the rings. I would recommend plotting points on the grid and doing one panel at a time, the lines don't have to be perfect, they will be covered up by the collage later.

Step 3: Labeling Your Template

This next step is to label where you want your dark collage parts, and light collage parts. This step is very important because it will allow the image to appear when the panels are put together.

Label the parts you want to be light with L's and the parts you want to be dark with D's. Alternating them with the rings so that the image will be clear.

Step 4: Collaging!

Gather up 8 of your friends and family and collage away.

Remember to explain that the D's mean collage them dark and L's mean collage them light. Contrast is important but that doesn't mean it needs to be perfect. It's much more interesting when some panels are clean and clear and others are not.

Step 5: Putting the Panels Together

As the panels come together you will start to see the image.

Have fun creating a synergistic masterpiece!
