Introduction: Complete Shaving Set Holder

About: Too much wood, too little time.

I recently inherited my Grandfathers old razor, so I decided to invest in some real shaving supplies. However now I needed a place to put them.

Step 1: Sketch Time

First get an idea of what you want it to look like. I think walnut looks great with old fashion and vintage things so that's what I'll be using to make this.I found a block of wood which I then sectioned as seen above.

So as to not make the top too high I cut into the base and drew in a circle where my soap will sit.

Tips:

  • Measure your brush diameter
  • Length of brush
  • Soap dish diameter

Constrain everything within these three measurements.

Step 2: Put It Together

Stack them all up and if it looks good glue the three pieces together, we'll attach the base at the end.

Since circles were prominent in the design I used a cylindrical sander and belt sander to give my stand the curve it needed.

Step 3: Brush Holder

The most manually intensive part of the project will be this one if done by hand.

  • Drill out the red hole, make it smaller than the widest diameter of the brush.
  • Saw out the two blue lines
  • Sand and carve away until it's a snug fit.

Step 4: Soap Bowl and Blade Holder

Using progressively larger miter bits drill out the hole for the bowl

Once you're done with that I used a band saw and slowly carved out a ditch the size of my razor blade on the top.

Put everything together and admire your handiwork.

Step 5: Polish

Polish this bad boy with some polyurethane to make it waterproof and slicker than your grandpa in the 80's.
