Conky-like Utility for Mac OS X

Conky is a great utility that runs on linux. Conky automatically updates and displays system stats on the desktop. The stats are displayed in front of the background and behind any desktop folders or documents.

However, conky doesn't work on MAC OS X.

Übersicht is a nifty utility that allows display of any type of data and allows control of the rate at which the data is updated.

Step 1: Download and Install Übersicht

Open a browser and dDownload the Übersicht app from here:

Once the download is complete, drag Übersicht from Downloads folder to Applications folder. Start Übersicht and there will be Ü icon added to the menu bar.

Available widgets and the widgets directory are accessible through the icon.

Step 2: Install the Conky-for-mac Widget

Übersicht has many available widgets. I wanted a conky-like widget. So, I created it. Here is the source code if you want to modify it:

Übersicht added my widget. So, you can add it by clicking on the Ü icon and look for my name or look for the conky-for-mac widget and download it.

unzip the downloaded file using "the unarchiver" and copy the widget to the widgets directory.

When I started, I created a conky-for-mac folder, in the Übersicht widgets folder and in that folder I created a file called index.coffee.

Once the folder and index.coffee are in the widgets directory, the Übersicht icon will show it in the Ü drop down.

Enable the widget by clicking the radio button (or click/unclick Hide on submenu)
