Introduction: Cow Cake Step by Step

About: Mostly harmless
This cake i made 1 week ago, and I think it's one of the best i've ever made! If you think so too, please rate and vote for it!

This instructable is step by step, and shows  how to cut the cake-pieces into a cow :)

Unfortunately i managed to delete some images from covering and painting the cow, but I think you get it anyway!

The cake is covered with Marshmallowfondant

I prefer to paint my cakes - the colors used were:
sugar-flaire colors thinned with vodka
"chestnut" for the body
"liquorice" for the hoof and nose-holes
a little bit "christmas red" for the nose and udder
"party green" for the cake board

Step 1: Layout

search the internet for pictures of cows
laying on the ground - look closely on the anatomic.

It doesn't hurt to have a printed copy by your working space.

Step 2: Cutting the Body Parts

cuts are Pink on the pictures
the numbers shall help you to find the right spot for the cut pieces.

bake
1 square pan : 24cm  x 24cm
1 square pan:  25cm  x 9cm
 of your favorite cake-recipe.

The pictures show you where to cut.

cut 3 layers out of your cake-pieces.

Step 3: Mix Your Favorite Frosting and Get Started

place the cake pieces as shown on your cake board.
start frosting and layering.

Don't place the third layer of the Cake piece "2" yet

Step 4: Cutting More Body Parts

now cut the third layer of piece "2" as shown on the pictures.

Step 5: The Head

Take your second cake and cut the head ( piece 6 )

the crossed red line is where i cut wrong - please take the pink cut :)

Step 6: Body Filler

cut from pieces "3" and "7" filler body parts as shown on the pictures.

3 makes a smooth back-line
7 the leg

the turquose coloured pieces are cut form cake remains you'll have.

sorry some pics missing from here :(

Step 7: Covering and Adding Texture

unfortunately the covering pics are missing,

i covered it with one big sheet of marshmallow-fondant
this needs a little practise but is also very forgiving :)

add texture to the fondant by pinching it with your fingers - the turquose lines show you where to.

add a spine, the leg texture and on the head - especially the eye and nose-area
Poke some little holes with a toothpick at the nose-area

form some horns, dugs and ears.

when your done, it's time to paint the cake.
I used sugar-flaire colors thinned with vodka
"chestnut" for the body
"liquorice" for the hoof and nose-holes
a little bit "christmas red" with much vodka ;) for the nose and udder
"party green" for the cake board

Step 8: Paint the Details

I used sugar-flaire colors thinned with vodka
"chestnut" for the body
"liquorice" for the hoof and nose-holes
a little bit "christmas red" - very thin! for the nose and udder
"party green" for the cake board

look at the pictures for details on eyes, udder, and ears

Step 9: Tadaaaaaa

you're done!

It took me about 3 hours including cleaning the kitchen!

The bithday-child was very pleased -and so was I !
