Step 1: The Base

All heavy plant shelves need firm bases. So let’s start there.

Check the above graphic to see the materials you’ll be needing for this step.

After you have collected your materials, arrange them on a flat floor or workspace, following the example shown previously.

You have eleven boards aligned in a row, with the two end pieces framing them. It’s advisable to create a measurement and marking plan to guarantee consistent gaps between the center boards before securing them.

Finish your base by connecting all of these pieces in a method of your choice.

Step 2: The Support Posts

Now let’s work on the vertical posts.

For this step, attach all your vertical lumber pieces to the base.

To achieve this, consider turning the base sideways, securing it with clamps, and attaching the vertical posts using this approach.

NOTE: It's important to utilize the horizontal lumber supports from Step 3 as a reference for precise spacing and measurement prior to fixing the vertical supports.

Step 3: The Perpendicular Supports

Now, install your lateral support.

Now, take vertical measurements to ensure the accurate placement of your supports. Each horizontal crosspiece should align at the same height as its counterpart across from it. This approach guarantees stability and evens the plant shelf.

Once all eight horizontal support pieces are in place, you should have a structure that looks similar to the diagram in Step 4 (below).

Step 4: The Small Bases

You’re almost there! The final step, install your top bases now.

Here you’ll need twenty pieces of 11.75” (1x2) lumber. Each shelf-top base consists of five of these pieces.

Attach all five of these per plant stand, making sure to place them evenly spaced. (It could be beneficial to measure precise distances for these components before attaching them.)

And there you have it! Your own Plant Shelf!
