Introduction: DIY Runic Stones From River Rocks

Hello.

To make this runic stones you will need the following items:

- 25 rocks (or more in case one fails or breaks)

- Printer or marker to lay the design on the rock

- Tape (transparent or masking depending if you are using a printer or marker)

- Rotary tool with diamond and polishing bits

- Angle grinder with dry cutting diamond disc

- Bench vise to hold the rocks

Step 1: Step 1: Collect the Rocks

I went to the Miño river in Galicia, Spain for this rocks since it was a gift for my wife and her family is from there, so this makes it a lot special for her.

I gathered a bunch of rocks with similar sizes and flat shape (or as close as it can get) so that later I could decide which ones to use.

Step 2: Step 2: Place the Template

After selecting the stones you are going to use place the template on the selected rocks.

I choosed to print the runes so they would all be proportional to one another and tape them to keep them steady while engraving them.

Step 3: Step 3: Marking the Rune in the Rock

With the template now laid on the rocks, I proceeded to secure them one by one in the vise grip. You can use a piece of leather, cloth o rubber so the vise doesn't damage the sides of the rock, I attached leather with some duct tape for this purpose.

Now I mark the runes with the rotary tool and diamond bit. This step is only so that when using the angel grinder I can see where the tools has to make a pass.

Step 4: Step 4: Making the Grooves With the Angle Grinder

With the runes now marked on the rocks, we proceed to make passes over the shallow marks we left before

Step 5: Step 5: Polishing

I used a rubber type polishing disc on the rotary tool, this did manage to polish a little bit some of the stones, in the future I will used a polishing tumbler machine to get them to a really smooth and shiny finish all over them.

Step 6: Step 6: Make a Pouch for the Runes and We Are Done

I made a pouch out of felt (I'll make another instructable and video for this one).
