Introduction: Daedric Lava Whiskey (Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion)
"Find him... and close shut the jaws of Oblivion." -Emperor Uriel Septim VII
Inspiration
Fewer video games have devoured more hours of my life than Oblivion. This game was my world for an absurd amount of time. The entire Elder Scrolls series has been a constant favorite throughout my life, and I wanted to pay homage to it with this Instructable based on an item from a DLC pack called "Wizard's Tower."
Why this drink? Why Wizard's Tower?
The Wizard's Tower was my favorite of all the DLC packs for Oblivion. No matter what kind of character I was playing I would always have them live in the Wizard's Tower for many reasons. I was absolutely in love with the snowy Jerall Mountains region of Cyrodiil and spent as much time around there as possible throughout the game and the tower was equipped with an indoor garden, alchemy lab, enchating and spell-making station, atronach summoning circle, a teleportation pad for every mage's guild in Cyrodiil, not to mention the massive attic and basement for storage, and the tower was perched on the highest mountain in the game: Frostcrag Spire.
In the basement of the Wizard's Tower, there is an easter egg: a Half buried tombstone for someone named Rindsey that was supposedly an aficionado of Tamrielic ales and once brought back a bottle of Daedric Lava Whisky from Dagon's plane of Oblivion. This bottle can be found near Rindsey's grave and when consumed has some counter intuitive effects (fire damage, paralysis, restore health) but also summons a Dremora Lord. I often imagined this drink would be somewhat viscous, spicy, and only served to mortals with ice for fear of some other-worldly heat property and its unpredictable effects. The sum of my years of nerdy obsession has manifested itself in this Instructable, for your indulgence. I hope you enjoy the product of my dorkliness!
Step 1: Ingredients & Tools
Cocktail Ingredients
*This cocktail was designed for mass consumption in a 17 ounce bottle*
-4 oz Wild Turkey Bourbon
-12 oz Tomato sauce
-2 tsp Black pepper
-1/2 table spoon Smoked Paprika
-1/2 tsp Ghost pepper sauce
-1/2 teaspoon salt
-1 teaspoon lemon juice
-2 Dashes of dried Rosemary
-A large measuring cup or bowl
-A measuring shot glass or jigger
-Measuring spoons (Teaspoons & Tablespoons)
-A funnel
-(optional) garnish with a black olive
Oblivion Bottle Tools
-Black Acrylic Paint
-Small paint brush
-Exacto Knife/box cutter
-A print of an Oblivion Gate (I used this one at 1/4 scale)
-A sheet of Cardstock
-A 17 Ounce resealable bottle (I used a St. Sebastion Dark Ale bottle for it's ceramic medieval aesthetic)
Step 2: Your Unholy Concotion
Step 3: Making Your Oblivion Bottle
-Place your print over your card stock and cut around the outline of the gate.
-Pop out the cut out parts and place your new Oblivion gate stencil over the face of the bottle.
-Using your paint brush fill in your stencil with black acrylic paint.
-If you were a little heavy handed with the paint or some paint bled out of the stencil, use a wet paper towel to trim off any paint you don't want until you are satisfied with your finished product.
-Allow your paint about 1 hour to dry or use a hairdryer to quicken the process.
Step 4: Serving and Storage
Daedric Lava Whiskey has a very smokey, tomato taste with a noticeable kick with each sip you take. It makes a good sipping drink for hot days, hangover days, brunch, or just playing endless hours of Oblivion! Or Skyrim... or Morrowind! Whatever you decide to do, enjoy this drink responsibly!
