Introduction: DIY Decorative Foldable Wall Hook

About: "Your contribution, no matter how small, is making a significant impact on makers and learners worldwide. Together, we can achieve great things and continue to make a positive difference in the world. This is …

In this Instructable, I'll guide you through the steps to create a decorative foldable wall hook. This project is a remake of a traditional wall hook, transforming it into a more stylish and space-saving solution. The foldable design allows the hook to be hidden when not in use, making it perfect for small spaces or minimalist decor. This remake adds both functionality and aesthetic appeal, addressing the need for versatile and unobtrusive wall hooks.

Supplies

3D printer

Digital caliper

Filament (any color of your choice)

Fusion 360 (for modeling)

1* Steel rod 4mm (length- 35mm)

2* Transparent pipe rings (ID- 4mm) [length- 2.5mm]

Super glue

Double-sided tape

Cutter

Sandpaper (optional)

Step 1: Modeling the Parts in Fusion 360

First, we'll model the two parts in Fusion 360:

  1. Wall Attachment Part: This part will be fixed to the wall.
  2. Hook Part: This part will be able to fold and function as a hook.

I have provided the STL files for both parts, so you can directly use them.

Step 2: 3D Printing the Parts

Next, 3D print both parts. Here are the recommended printing settings:

Configuration : (for reference)

  • Layer height - 0.2 mm (0.1mm is recommended)
  • Infill density - 100%
  • Print speed - 50mm/s
  • Printing temperature - 230 C
  • Printing material - PLA+

You can use any color of filament for this project.

Step 3: Inserting the Rod

Insert the 4mm steel rod through the aligned holes.

Note- I have cut this 4mm steel rod in 35mm length, using either a metal cutting saw or an angle grinder.

Step 4: Inserting Transparent Rings

Insert transparent rings inside the rod before attaching the hook part. These rings will help in the smooth folding and unfolding of the hook.

Note- These transparent ring pieces were cut down from the transparent pipe (generally used with 5v mini water pump) of internal diameter of 4mm and length 2.5 mm (2 pieces)

Step 5: Attaching the Hook Part

Holes are already present in both parts. Align the hook part with the wall attachment part. Insert the rod completely and ensure the transparent rings are properly positioned.

Note- Insert another transparent ring to the other side after attaching the hook part and before completing the assembly.

Step 6: Gluing the Rod

Carefully apply super glue to both ends of the rod to secure it to the outer part. Ensure that the center of the hook is not glued to allow for folding.

Step 7: Completing the Assembly

Verify that all parts are fitted perfectly. Ensure the rod is securely in place and the hook moves smoothly without any obstruction.

Step 8: Adding Double Sided Tape

Attach a piece of double-sided tape to the back of the wall attachment part (optional).

You can also drill the hole to install the hook on the wall, but it's convenient to paste it.

Step 9: Attaching the Hook to the Wall

Find the desired location on the wall where you want to place the hook. Press the hook firmly against the wall and hold for a few seconds.

Step 10: Conclusion

This simple yet elegant foldable wall hook is a great addition to any room. Its functionality and aesthetic appeal make it a perfect solution for hanging items without sacrificing space. Enjoy your new wall hook!
