Introduction: Digital Painting of a Rose
Hi dear friends,
today i am going to explain how to make a digital art painting of a rose.
Supplies :
1) Adobe photoshop
OR
2) Autodesk sketchbook
3) a reference image
I am familiar with both photoshop as well as sketchbook, but i did this painting in sketchbook. I used a mouse, but you can use pen tablet too as per your convenience.
Supplies
Reference image , pen tablet/ mouse , laptop /Ipad
Step 1: Outline
Initially , get a reference image from google, pinterest / adobe stock. Then , roughly prepare a draft of the flower you have. preferably use different colours for different parts of the flower (just for easier identification).
Then delete the reference and pick a color palette of your choice / Use the palette of colours from the image itself.
Draw few rectangles and sample the colours from the image and have it aside for easier layering.
Step 2: Petal by Petal Colour Layering
Lock the outline layer so that you don't delete it while doing changes in your painting. Also decrease the opacity of that layer.
Next, taking refrence from the image / colour palette of your choice start by colouring the bottom of the rose.
have a light source that is imaginery and give dark and light shades of the colour you are using. For added effects, use blur, sharpen , grunge and texture brushes and blend them well to give a natural effect .
The same steps have to be followed for all the other petals. To differentiate each petal and give them a depth, give a bright to light pink shades along its inner edges to make it pop out.
Step 3: Final Touch Ups
After finishing the colouring part, remember to give some white highlights that reflect the light source. Check for unfilled areas and give it a background of your choice. I gave it a gradient background .
Also colour the stem part using the same method we did for petals. Add higlight and shadows wherever necessary. To make your painting stand out, create a duplicate layer and multiply effect and merge .this will balance the colours and make the painting more beautiful...
