Introduction: Duct Tape Cat Scratching Board
My cat Trixie loves to scratch and knead. I have all kinds of scratching posts around the house and I enjoy buying her new toys but I hate the thought of paying for cardboard scratching boards when there's so much cardboard to be recycled and in 10 minutes, and with some Duct Tape, you can make a great scratching board.
Step 1: Parts
To make the duct tape cat scratching board you need:
- One or two large pieces of cardboard that can be cut into approximately 50 12" x 2" pieces of cardboard. I cut mine from a vacuum cleaner box.
- Two extra long rubber bands.
- Roll of duct tape.
- Cardboard box cutter
- Scissors
Step 2: Put the Pieces in Place
Line up all the pieces and wrap the two rubber bands around the outside to hold the pieces in place. Keep the cat away from the pieces or you may have line up the pieces more than once!
Step 3: Wrap Cardboard With Duct Tape
Wrap duct tape around the outside of the pieces of cardboard as shown in the first photo below: leave the rubber bands in place to hold the cardboard together while taping. Next wrap duct tape around the ends to secure all pieces in place otherwise they'll pop out when your cat scratches them.
Step 4: Finished!
Your duct tape cat scratching board is now ready for use by your feline friends! Both sides are usable so when your cat has scratched up the top side, just flip it over. As you can see, Trixie likes it - or at least likes sitting on it!
