Introduction: Easy Litter Tray Fudge!
Don't let the presentation put you off; this cookie dough fudge is delicious and super simple to make with only four ingredients!
Step 1: Ingredients
For the fudge, you will need;
- 397g Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 300g White Chocolate
- 100g Icing (or powdered, or confectioners) sugar, sifted
- 300g Cookie Spread, such as Biscoff.
Just a few quick notes on these ingredients: I use chocolate melts or buttons, you can use chips or even a bar of chocolate. If you use a bar, best to cut it up or break off into little squares as we are going to be melting it.
Biscoff seems to be available in most places of the world, if I can get it in Australia I'm willing to bet it's pretty accessible. However, it's so delicious that my husband eats it from the jar and as a result, I had none left for this recipe. So I used a speculaas cookie spread from Aldi, it's very similar and also delicious. If you can't get your hands on any cookie spread, you can make your own by blitzing cookies, coconut oil, cream and a touch of sugar in a food processor.
Icing sugar, powdered sugar and confectioners sugar are all the same thing, just different names for different parts of the world.
*In the following photos, the fudge mixture you will see is actually a half batch, so I only used half the amounts of ingredients listed.
Step 2: Supplies
To make the fudge, you will need:
- One medium sized pot
- A spatula, silicone makes cleaning up a breeze
- Piping Bag and large round tip
- Sieve
- Stovetop
- Baking paper or silicone baking mats
- Set of kitchen scales
Step 3: For Presentation
To present these delicious little turd nuggets, I used;
- A cat litter tray
- A cat litter scoop
- Puffed rice cereal, or
- Biscuits, crushed into a powder
If you aren't making this fudge for Halloween, and just want to make a normal tray of fudge, you can use a square 9x9 baking tray lined with baking paper.
Step 4: Time to Make the Fudge!
This fudge is so simple to make, and it comes together so quickly!
Put the white chocolate, condensed milk and cookie spread in to your medium sized pot and put it on a low heat. (Remember, these photo's are of a half batch only. If you make a full batch, you will have more of the good stuff than you see here!)
Stir the mixture regularly so that the chocolate doesn't stick to the bottom of the pot and burn. Once the chocolate melts and it all comes together, it will get thick and move around the pot in a deliciously satisfying way.
At this point in time, add in the sifted icing sugar and mix it in thoroughly.
Once the sugar is mixed in and no longer distinguishable, you can remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before piping.
If you aren't making this fudge for Halloween and just want a normal block of fudge, now is the time to pour the mix into a lined baking tray, smooth it out and pop into the refrigerator to set.
If you want to make poop, get your piping bag ready and move on to the next step!
Step 5: Let's Make Poop!
Get your piping bag ready by inserting the round tip into it and standing it up in a tall cup or glass (this will make filling the bag later much easier).
Once the Fudge has set up a little bit, but is still warm, transfer it from the pot to the piping bag. We want it to cool down enough that it will still hold its shape when we pipe it, but still be warm enough to pipe easily. There's a lot of time to work with here, so don't stress too much.
Time to pipe some poop! I like the little pretzel shaped poops, but the squiggle logs are fun too!
A few tips when piping:
- Dont try to pipe with the piping nozzle resting on or touching the surface you are piping onto. Keep the tip elevated slightly, hovering above the surface. This will give you more control, as well as a nice round poopie shape.
- Twisting the top of the piping bag closed will prevent the good stuff leaking from the wrong end of the bag! However, it will also stop air from escaping through the top of the bag too, leaving only one other exit. That's why it is important to try and get as much air out of the bag as possible before twisting it closed. Pothole poops aren't the end of the world, but it can throw off your groove!
- Keep the pressure even throughout the piping motion. A good, firm squeeze will tell the fudge who's boss!
- If the trail of fudge is reluctant to drop off when you release the pressure on the bag, gently press the piping nozzle down at a slight angle against the surface to break it off.
Try a few practice runs, I bet you'll find the technique almost comes naturally. Piping fudge is easier than piping royal icing, because its thicker and slower to move. So if you can pipe icing (of any sort), you wont have any issues!
Once you've made your little army of poops, best put them in the fridge for an hour or so to harden up.
When not munching on the fudge, keep it in the fridge.
Step 6: Setting Up the Finished Gag
Now all that's left to do is put all the pieces together and gross out your friends and neighbours!
If using puffed rice cereal, pour a layer of the cereal into the litter tray, and place your poop on top!
If using cookie crumbs, well, it's the same process, just using cookie crumbs instead of cereal. I did have cookies to use, but they were too dark and you couldn't see the poop as well. So, if you want to use cookie crumbs to resemble cat litter sand, go for the light cookies, not the dark ones like I did haha.
Then it's as simple as scoop and serve!
