About: Furniture Painting, DIY Crafts and Home Thrift Decor

Reupholstery is a very good method of giving your old chair a new and beautiful look. It is also a great way to repurpose an old chair because you have the freedom to choose what fabric you would like to use, making it easier to match any design or style in any space you will place the chair.

Today, I am going to share with you a beginner-friendly makeover on how way to reupholster a chair seat.

Supplies

These are the accent chairs I started with. Bought the pair for $15.

Tools and Supplies:

Chairs

Dollar Towel

TSP or any Furniture Cleaner

Pair of Scissors

Pliers

Cotton Batting

Pneumatic Staple Gun

Manual Upholstery Gun

Fabric

Step 1: Remove the Chair Seat

The seats are usually held by screws like this chair. After removing the seat, I cleaned the chairs using a cleaner.

Step 2: Remove the Old Fabric

After cleaning the chair, I removed the old fabric. You may or you may not remove the old fabric and just cover it with the new one, but in this case, I removed it so I could add a cotton battling.

Step 3: Adding the Cotton Batting

To add a layer that will separate the old foam and the new fabric.

Step 4: Adding the New Fabric

After adding the cotton batting, add the new fabric by cutting it with the right size that is enough to fold it. Then staple it while making sure it is tight along the edges. Lastly, I folded and stapled the corner.

Step 5: Reattaching Chair Seat and Chair Back Fabric

Reattached the chair seat. After that I added the new fabric to the chair seat.

Step 6: Final Look

To be honest, I am not good with fabric projects. But reupholstering is never been easy, even if you're a beginner you can get professional results! Now the old chairs look sleek and sophisticated!
