Introduction: Easy (latex Free) Juggling Clubs
You can make a set of juggling clubs using only plastic bottles, masking tape, and wooden dowels.
Supplies
You'll need:
Three to four feet (90-120 cm) of 3/4" (19 mm) in diameter wooden dowels, cut into equal thirds.
Approximately 10 feet (3 meters) of masking tape. You can use duct tape, but most duct tape is NOT latex-free.
3 equal plastic bottles: 16.9 oz (1/2 liter) to 33.8 oz. (1 liter) sized.
Step 1: Cut Dowels Into Thirds
Cut your dowels into thirds, as evenly as you can. (Some home improvement centers sell pre-cut dowels, although slightly more expensive, this works fine too.)
Step 2: Wrap 2 Feet of Tape on One End
Carefully wrap about two feet (60 cm) of tape on one end of the club. It does not have to be on the tip, as shown; it will be wherever you want the handle to "stick" to the neck of the bottle. (With 12" dowels and 20 oz. bottles, I liked the balance at 4" (10 cm), but feel free to try different lengths.) Masking tape is designed to be removed, so be calm about a mistake.
Step 3: Put the Handle in the Bottle
Put the handle in the bottle.
Step 4: Wrap the Neck of the Bottle in Tape.
Step 5: Make Two More (optional)
Repeat steps 1-4 for each club you want. Covering the handle can reduce the risk of splinters, though this also increases the weight of the handle.
Step 6: Juggle!
Keep trying different weights. If you need a longer handle, but want more weight on the "head" (non-handle part of the club), you can wrap it with more tape. This will change the balance slightly. Also, practice in a wide-open space, as clubs are more likely to fly away, and more dangerous than juggling balls, so juggle at your own risk. Have fun!
