Introduction: Escaping a Two Handed Arm Grab
A two handed arm grab is when a person clenches both their hands around your arm in a tight grip. This type of situation may happen to you, either if someone is forcing you to come with them to a situation you find undesirable. Fortunately, there is a way to get out of this grip.
Step 1: Form a Fist
The first thing to do is to form a fist. Forming a fist will enlarge your forearm and will help you prepare for the following steps ahead. It also helps in providing an adrenaline rush to the body to help it fight.
Step 2: Lean Forward
Leaning forward will give you a favorable body position to prepare to take your arm out of the grip. It can also mislead your aggressor into thinking you are submitting to them and they may relax their grip.
Step 3: Twist Fist Up and Grab It
The next step is to tilt your fist so that your palm is facing upward. This is so that when performing the escape, it will be easier to pull your fist out. Grabbing your fist prepares you to pull your arm towards you, escaping the hold.
Step 4: Escape the Hold
The following step is subdivided into three parts.
The first part is to bend down, so that when you push up with your legs, you have extra force to pull your arm out. This is demonstrated in the first two pictures.
The second part is also incorporated with the first two pictures. You have to pull both your arms in a vertical fashion while maintaining the lock with your fist. This disrupts the grip your aggressor has on you.
The final step is pulling your arm out completely as shown in the last picture.
Step 5: Get Away
After this technique is performed, you have to get away from your aggressor. He/She will be in a state of shock after the move is performed and would be a good chance to strike with a punch or kick. After he/she is down from the attack, run away.
Step 6: What Not to Do
When you clasp your hand and fist together, don't pull horizontally as you will not only have less leverage to work with but you may not succeed in loosening the grip of your aggressor.
