Intro: Fallout 3 Food Lables

This Instructable will briefly go over the process I used to make these food Items from Fallout 3.

STEP 1: What You'll Need

You will need

-Modge Podge (or the glue of your preference)
-Foam Brush / Paintbrush
-Scissors
-A small box of Jello (For Insta Mash)
-A Can of Something (I used corn (For Pork n' Beans))
-A Box of Mac and Cheese (Umm, for Mac and Cheese)
-Bottles of Coke (For Nuka Cola)
-The Labels Below
-A Printer
-Image Editing Software

But Where can I find X ?

- I got the Coke from the Hispanic Foods section of Smiths. It is Coke De Mexico
- Free Image editing software: IrfanViewThe Gimp

- I added a Sugar Bombs Label  as per KneeCapHill's Request.
Since I tried to keep them printable on a standard printer it is in three pieces(front, top, and side). I also tried adding them as .pdfs which I don't know if that will help anyone or not. It's based on a 14oz (396 g) wheat chex box.

STEP 2: Go to It

1. Measure the surface area of the Item you wish to apply the label to
2. Re-size the label in your image editor to be sure it fits. 
3. Print out the label(s) you want to use.*
4. Cut out the Labels. **
5. For boxed items Fold along the lines
6. "Dry fit" the labels to be sure they are the right size
6. Apply a thin layer of Modge Podge / glue to the Item you are re-labeling.
7. Carefully line up the label BEFORE it touches the glued surface. 
8. Work from the middle out to smooth the label into place.
9. Apply a thin layer of glue between any overlapping areas.
10. Brush a thin coat of glue to the outside of the label.
11. (Optional) After allowing to dry use Sand Paper to give the label a worn feel as well as look.

I can't emphasize enough the use of THIN layers of glue. If you go and gob a bunch on there not only will it take for ever to dry but it will make you labels all wavy and bumpy looking. (which I suppose you could just blame on 200 years of lying around an irradiated wasteland)

I made all these label from scratch based on Info I found on the Fallout 3 Wiki.

* You will need 2 of the Blamco Mac and Cheese Labels to cover an entire box of Mac and Cheese. 

** Look at the way your box is made. You want to cut out and glue down the Label in the same way.

That is so cool it hurts. How do you re-seal the bottle after filling it?

I just tried to bend the cap as little as possible in taking it off then put some hot glue in it an pushed it back on. Just make sure that the cap and rim are completely dry. I haven't had any problems with mine leaking to date. But then it mostly just sits on a shelf. I'd love to hear any other ideas for re-sealing that folks might have though.

Hii I live in new zealand and you cant get thos bottles here how much would it cost for me to pay someone to go buy 4 of them and ship them over here? thanks :)

It might be "cheating", but wouldn't the plastic Coke bottle work as well? You could resize the label for a one liter or two liter bottle also.

Save the caps from your bottles and you can straighten and reuse them...probably

So for anyone else who was doing these projects with GIMP and couldn't find the correct sizing, here's what to do...

-To edit the sizing of the picture, at the top of the screen click image, then go to scale image.

-the next part will be the part you won't want to do, but will be glad you did do, take the width of the box, plus the width of the two sides of the box added together and multiply that by 100 (YES INCLUDE DECIMALS IF THERE ARE ANY!!!) and then put that in for the width of the pic, then GIMP will edit the height automatically for you, and yes its accurate. For example the width of the jello box was 3.3in plus the two side which where 1in each, added together equals 5.3 in, times 100 equaling 530, when you put that in for the width GIMP puts in 814 for the height and you will have the exact size for the jello box. Yes I know, a lot of work, but you where'nt the one who had to make the equation so at least it was easier for you than me.

-Then print it out (IN BLACK AND WHITE!!!) to check the sizing, if it fits well, print it out again in color, discard the B&W version and glue it on!

- So yeah your now done, then just touch up any exposed corners with dark blue or black sharpie and bam, you have some Fallout Items!

I know this is about the labels but I can't help but ask. Did you make the nuka cola quantum? I want to make it as a gift for my boyfriend but I just can't find out how exactly :[

Im desperatly trying to create my own labels for some other game props

For resealing, I stick a small bit of cork from a wine cork under the cap, and then hot glue it. I carry mine around school occasionally, and have never had any leakage issues.
