Introduction: Fancy Flower Power for Your Feet

Fancy some Flower Power for your feet? These Foot Fancies are beautiful, easy to make, waterproof and are perfect for a beach wedding. Flaunt them at the pool, at a party or make some for your next fabulous fairy function.

You Need:

  • Scissors
  • Plastic string (also known as polypropylene or raffia string)
  • A large needle with an eye big enough for the string to be easily threaded
  • A metal crochet hook size 4.5
  • A metal daisy wheel ( Birch is a good brand. About $20 on E bay)

It is possible to make daisies without a daisy wheel but I think the ones you make with the wheel are the best.

Step 1: Daisy Wheel Daisies

Turn the central knob on the daisy wheel to extend the spikes. Make sure they are fully extended.

  • Turn the wheel so the smooth side faces you.
  • Loop the string over the top spike, leaving a short 15cm "tail". You need this to tie off the completed daisy.
  • Using the long end of the string pull it straight down and wind it around the opposite spike, looping it under from Right to Left. Take the string back up and around the top spike again (Go around the spike - Left to Right).
  • Loop the string around the bottom spike again - you need two loops around each spike.
  • Work your way counterclockwise around the wheel looping the string twice around each set of opposite spikes.

When you have completed the daisy 'petals' cut the string 60cm from the daisy and thread the needle.

  • Pull the string tight straight up from the middle of the daisy. You are now going to sew the middle of the daisy.
  • Do NOT sew into the daisy itself. You will essentially just be making tight loops around the center of the daisy.
  • Find the opposite side to where you have pulled the string tight and push the needle in behind the center of the string daisy and against the flat face of the daisy wheel. Push the needle through and out and pull the string tight.
  • Work your way around the daisy counterclockwise until you have looped between every set of petals.
  • Cut the long string the same length as the shorter "tail" and tie off the middle with a double knot.
  • Turn the knob on the daisy wheel to pull in the spikes. You have your first daisy! Make four.

Step 2: Finishing the Foot Fancies

Tie a knot at the end of a roll of string. Measure 33cm and at that point make a slip knot. Using your crochet hook, crochet from that slip knot a single chain length of 40cm.

When the chain is 40cm long, measure past that for 33cm and cut the string. Just hook that end of the string back through the last link in your chain and pull. The chain will tie itself off. Tie a knot at the end of the string.

Loop the crochet section in half and leaving room for your toe, tie on two daisies.

Slip the loop over your big or second toe and tie the string ends around the back of your ankle in a bow. Perfect!

Not sure how that's done?

Check the photos. I used a thicker rope to show how to make a slip knot then made one in the string. Push the tip of the crochet hook through the slip knot making sure that the long end of the string is to the left of the hook (assuming you are right handed). Hook the string (as shown in the photos) and pull it back through the slip knot. Continue the process. A chain will form.
