Introduction: Feather Earrings

Feather earrings have become incredibly popular recently.  Many times, good feather earrings can be expensive.  For a trendy girl on a budget, I have provided instructions for making your own feather earrings!

Step 1: Gathering Materials

Supplies:

Superglue*
Assorted Feathers
24 Gauge Craft Wire
French Hooks
Hairspray

*Be very careful handling the glue.  This project is tiny and requires a lot of handling.  Be cautious about gluing your hand or items together.

Tools:

Ruler
Cap from Ballpoint Pen
Scissors

Step 2: Wrapping

Twist craft wire tightly around the long end of a pen cap until you have a spiral a little over a centimeter long.

Slide the wire off the end of the pen cap.

Unroll three more centimeters of wire.

Cut the wire.

Apply Superglue to the spiral and press it tightly together.  This prevents it from becoming a spring.

Step 3: Twisting

Take the long end of the craft wire and slide it through the loop of a French hook.

Twist the craft wire around itself below the French hook three to five times.

Trim the excess end of the craft wire.

Tuck the sharp ends of the craft wire into the spiral, preventing them from showing.

Step 4: Reflecting

Set aside.

Step 5: Gluing Feathers Together

Overlap four to five feathers of your choice on a flat surface.

Superglue the feathers together at their bases.

Set aside to dry.

Step 6: Connecting

Apply a bit of Superglue to the end of the bundle you just created.

Slide the bundle into the spiral of craft wire.

Set aside to dry.

Step 7: Securing

Clamp the handle of the scissors over the wire spiral to secure the feathers.

Step 8: Repeat

Add a drop of Superglue over the spiral to further wedge the feathers inside of the spiral.

*Repeat with other earring.

*Hint for unruly feathers
1.  Hold the earring by the French hook and spray hairspray lightly over the feathers.
2.  Smooth down with your hands until the feathers hold the shape of your choosing.
