Introduction: Fix Suitcase Handle
Rough handling of your luggage on your last flight? Well get a grip and replace it!
I have a lot of belts that don't seem to fit me anymore. Not sure why... anyway what a perfect reuse as a replacement suitcase handle.
Step 1: Parts Needed
Here is all you need:
- a belt
- #6 bolts and nuts
- #6 finishing washers
- leather punch
- scissors
- screwdriver
Step 2: Cut Belt
You'll need to trim the belt to the desired length for your handle. I tapered mine to look like the top handle. There should be plenty of strength when using a leather belt.
Step 3: Punch Holes
You'll need to punch holes for the bolts. I already have a leather punch but I'm sure a nail could work in a pinch. Make sure to use the punch matting under the belt. Thankfully I will not need to post an Instructable on repairing laminate flooring...
Step 4: Secure to Suitcase
Simply put the bolts through the holes in the belt and into the suitcase. Place a washer onto the bolt to ensure that the bolt won't cause damage to the suitcase from the inside. Tighten the bolts from the inside of the suitcase.
Step 5: Travel in Style
Get a grip of your new handle and head out to some place awesome!
