Introduction: Floating PC Mount

For my new handmade workbench I needed a pc mount to protect the electronics from dust, so I started to built one!

Step 1: Materials & Tools

Materials

  • OSB-board in your prefered length
  • 2 brackets
  • some screws
  • wood glue
  • tape

  • linseed oil

Tools

  • circular saw
  • router
  • sandpaper
  • propane torch
  • angle grinder
  • vise
  • steel brush

Step 2: Cutting the Board

I first cut three pieces out of osb-board. I wanted a smooth crossover on the side pieces so I cut them in an angle of 45°.

Sadly I forgot to make some pictures. I hope you understand my explanation. Just have a look on the next step.

Step 3: Gluing

To put the three pieces together I took 2 small strips of tape to hold the parts in the correct position. I added some wood glue in the small slots between the left, the middle and the right part and flapped them up.

Step 4: Sanding

For a better finish I sanded all rough edges.

Step 5: Torching

I troched my workbench with an propane torch and I wanted the pc mount to have the same look.

Please be carful when you use the propane torch!

After torching I used a steel brush to get rid off rough dirt.

Step 6: Oiling

For a nice finish I used some linseed oil.

Step 7: Cutting the Brackets

I measured the height and depth of the board and luckily I just had to cut off small pieces of the brackets because I don't wanted the brackets to be seen at the wall mount for a floating effect.

Step 8: Routing

For a better stability and also for the floating effect I decided to make 2 notches. I first measured the length and the width of the brackets, then adjusted the router and started milling.

As you can see the brackets fit in perfectly!

Step 9: Finished!

Now you just have to drill some holes into the wall, tighten the brackets in the right position, push the osb-board over the brackets and tighten them with some scrrws from below and then you are finished!

Here are some pics of my new floating pc mount. It was fun to built it and I learned a lot!

Improvement: Next time I would use some wider brackets to prevent vibrations if you bounce at your pc mount.
