Introduction: Fried Fair Foods

Tasty Fair treats brought right to your kitchen

Note: i thought to make this instructable 1/2 way through the process

Step 1: Gather Supplies

2 eggs
1 1/3 cup milk
6 tbsp. sugar
2 1/2 cup flour
3/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder

1 cup powdered sugar

1 box of twinkies

1 box of cream filled coffee cakes

8" cast iron pan

corn or vegetable oil

tongs

whisk

medium size mixing bowl

large table spoon

large Popsicle sticks/ tongue depressors (craft supplies)

Step 2: Start Mixing

mix the main ingredients in a large bowl with your whisk. make sure there are no lumps left

Step 3: Heat the Oil

WARNING!!! risk of severe burns if done improperly, i am not at fault for you not paying attention''''

add your oil to your pan till it is about 1 1/2 inches from the top
HEAT SLOWLY this take a little bit of time

it will be hot enough when you start to see smoke lightly coming from the oil

you can drop a small test amount in the oil to verify it's hot enough, you are looking for the oil to bubble around the mix

Step 4: Stick It to Them

gently stick the Popsicle sticks inside the coffee cakes and twinkies
do your best to
A: stick it in evenly in the cake
B: insert the stick all the way so that you can feel the tip coming out the other side of the cake

WARNING: not all twinkies are made the same, some will try to split on you.

Step 5: Cover in Batter

use the spoon while holding the stuck cake and cover the treat in batter.

WARNING: do not try to dunk the cake in the batter, you will only make a mess as the cake will break off the stick and crumble into the batter

Step 6: Start Frying

WARNING!! another chance to burn yourself.

if you oil is too hot when you place a covered cake in the oil the oil will pop and splatter. keep you oil on a low setting. once it gets hot it will stay hot enough to get the job done

Remember low and steady heat
using your tongs to hold the stick, gently place the batter covered cake into the hot oil

after 90 seconds has passed use the tongs again to gently turn over the cake

you are looking for a uniform light to medium brown color steady

Step 7: Drain Excess Oil

cover a plate in napkins and use it as a draining board for your cakes

if/when the napkins become transparent, use new napkins

Step 8: Arrange and Powder

after they have drained, move them to another plate and arrange them however you wish and lightly powder them

a easy way i like to use powdered sugar is to use a small plastic mesh handheld colander, it helps give it that light sprinkle look

Step 9: Enjoy

lay out for the party and enjoy watching them disappear faster then you made them. don't forget to snag on for yourself.

there are lots of things you can batter fry, just depends on your mood
oreos, girl scout cookies, peanut butter cups, even PB &J sandwiches. try all sorts of things the kitchen is your platter
