Introduction: Friendship Bracelets 101

Picture this: you’re between the age of 10-13 (circa 2011 for me), Ke$ha is all that plays on the radio, and you’re at summer camp. The awaited day has come! That one fun and carefree camp counselor has FINALLY decided to teach you how to make a friendship bracelet.

The main theme, beyond just friendship bracelets, is to instill that carefree manor we all once possessed. Taking an object from adolescence and re-creating it or re-living it as a young adult will hopefully trigger a sense of nostalgia and calmness, we could all use nowadays.

Tips and Tricks

o Making friendship bracelets with friends makes the experience more nostalgic and well…fun!
o If you do this alone, I highly recommend that you put on your favorite movie, show, or music (in my case it was a combo of icarly and The Corpse Bride)

o **CHOOSING YOUR COLORS** when choosing your colors, it is important to consider who you are creating the bracelet for

o Consider the following: what are their favorite colors? Is there a memory connected to the colors? Will they even like the colors?

Supplies

o Embroidery thread (at least 3 colors but more is more fun)

o Scotch tape

o Scissors

o Hard surface

o Patience

Step 1: Choose at Least 3 of Your Favorite Colors the More the Merrier

Step 2: No Measuring Necessary Just Make the Embroidery Thread Super Long and Cut

Step 3: Taking the Thread Pieces in a Hand, Fold in Half and Knot at Top

Step 4: Taking Whatever Color Thread, You Please, Cross Over Remaining Thread to Make a ‘4’ Shape

Step 5: THE HARDEST PART* Loop the Chosen Color Around and Through the Other Side of the Remaining Colors

Step 6: Repeat Previous Steps With All the Colors

Step 7: When the Bracelet Is Long Enough, Knot the Thread at the End

Step 8: Gift to a Friend!
